I bought a 72 Blazer, PO is running a Flex-Lite fan and no shroud ...makes me nervous. I was thinking about installing a Elecric fan but I don't have any experience with them please tell me the pros and cons. I'm running a TPI 350 in it. The Buckets and back seat are rough and and I was looking around at covers and new foam and Man it is expensive ...whats up with that. Couldn't I take it to a upholster and get it for about the same price or am I dreaming..never have had interior work done. Please let me know.

I'd either get a fan shroud or run some electrics. Wes at classicheartbeat.com sells a really nice setup and it about as close to bolt on as you can get.

As for the seat covers, you could probably get them upholstered for about the same price or slightly higher than the repop covers, but not in a reproduction of the factory covers. I don't know what a shop would charge to create new foam.

Congrats, that is one sweet blazer. How much for the soft top? Just kidding. Jtrux runs his w/o a shroud and it is fine. You might check with him though. I can't wait to check it out. Let us know when you get it home. As far as seats I picked up a set of seats out of a 2004 Chevy p/u for $100.00. I haven't installed them yet. Check out Critters ride. It has the same set up. Anyways, I'm on the N.W. side near Ingram. How 'bout you? Mario.

Your most efficient cooling will be with a shroud and a clutch fan.
Both can be had cheap in the bone yard.

Elec. are fine but again, run some sort of shroud with em.
IIRC, Wes's set up is an over lay with built in fans.

I run a dual 13" Flex-a-lite elctric fan, it comes in it's own shroud. Keeps my 454 nice and cool. Even works well in the heat of the summer

I also run a 4cor raidator...

When I bought the`71 I had it had no shroud and a flex-fan.I couldn`t 4-wheel without it getting hot.On the hiway was ok,but stop and go wasn`t.The shroud makes all the difference in the world.The Blazer had a body lift.I guess that`s why they didn`t have a shroud on it.I trimmed the bottom and it still cooled great that way.

I used one of Wes' shrouds on the 71 with my electric fans and it works great! Have a regular fan and shroud on the Blazer and it works well too, although its not had a real road test yet. Before I put the shroud on it and got the cooling lined out, it acted like it wanted to get hot, but I think that was an air bubble in the system.

I'd go with some type of shroud either way, and with the TPI, I just got rid of the engine fan altogether and just run the electrics.

Actually it wasn't fine, it overheated really quick if not on the highway so I put the shroud on it and that cured it. I run a flex a lite brand fan (18 inch I believe) and summit brand clutch on mine. I've checked into getting my seats redone from only one person and it was really high. Hopefully someone else will get me a better deal cuz i'm definitely keeping the original buckets in it. I think the price was 225 for each bucket and 250 for rear. Price includes all foam too. I don't know why there was such a small difference in price between one big seat and a small one, whatever.

Another electric fan option would be to use a factory shroud and mount the fan within the shroud, like this cheap sob did.

I like that "cheap SOB" look. It looks stock unless you really look close. Do you know where to obtain the "cheap SOB" electric fan?

IIRC, it's from a Ford Taurus.

This particular fan is set up as a two speed with a low speed draw of only 4amps and a high speed draw of 10amps.
Low is quiet and can barely be heard.
High roars like most other electric fans.

Set up also includes relays, no amps per say running through the switchs, all power goes direct from the battery to the fan unit.
Note: Connectors are now hear shrink style.

Yep, an old style ignition resistor.
Knocks the voltage down to around 4.5volts and that's how I get low speed for the fan.

Whatever you do, get rid of the flexfan! Other people love them and have no problems at all. Personally I think they are dangerous and if nothing else, they rob a little bit of horsepower. An electric setup is definitely nice, its on my "to do list" of things for the future. Got any recent pics???
