Nova clip

What year of nova front clip would fit the best on a 51 gmc?

Re: Nova clip

I was thinking of doing the s10 thing but I also heard a nova was the same size frame. Just trying to get all the info I can before I start anything.

Re: Nova clip

What about a 85 firebird? Has anyone used this before? I can get one for free if it will work.

Re: Nova clip

85' firebird has struts! the last year for subframe in a firebird is 81' and they are to wide. 82'+ are uni-body keep looking.

Re: Nova clip

As said above, S-10 or a Mustang II. Camero & Nova subframes are to wide.

Re: Nova clip

1968-1974 Nova are rear steer, width is fine for up to 7 inch
wide wheels, 1970-1981 Camaro and 1975-1979 Nova are 1 inch
wider. I have used 1970 Nova sub, 1981 Camaro, and
1978 Malibu. 1978-1987 Malibu is a very good piece to use.
It factory came with a V8, and is a little narrower than the
Nova/Camaro.

Ya brain fart. I got ahead of my self with the free part.
I have heard any 78-88 Gbody will work.(Malibu,Regal,Cutless,Grand prix...)

Okay, well I stand corrected. I heard they were to wide, but if you used one then you would know better.

Re: Nova clip

I have used 1968-1974 Nova sub-frames on 3 1947-1953
Chevy 1/2 ton pickups. I have been happy with all of them,
and I have run 7 inch wide wheels on all with no problems,
or rubbing. The frame lines up nice, the motor mounts
nice, and you can order headers for Nova or Camaro.
The only down side is that many of them came with
drum breaks, but there are many disc break kits for
them, and lots of aftermarket parts.

Re: Nova clip

If I were you I would just do a mustang II unit and call it a day. But if you really want to sub frame you could use a 78-87 monte carlo. They are not as wide as the camaro. I've done them in the past and I like them.

Re: Nova clip

my cousin has a 50' chevy with a 73' nova clip and it seems to be fine other than the fact after they installed it came to the conclusion that the low stance drug the bumper going in and out of the driveway so the tried to patch their mis-calculation by installing taller springs thus screwing up the front end geometry making alignment almost impossible.

Re: Nova clip

Nova rear steer clip before S-10 clip in my book. Front steer frames (S-10) will cause you to cut the core support and maybe the radiator. S-10 track width is also narrow. Mustang II in a 47-54 is the best in my opinion
