else besides Danny cummins done this? I am in the process of making this mod, but I cannot seem to get it plumbed properly. One problem I am having is that my truck is not body lifted like Danny's is and the hose wants to bind up. Second the filler neck he say's to use is too big, it is 2" and the neck on the tank is 1-1/4". The filler is way too long also, it comes down to the bottom of the bed side. Besides the obviouse of cutting the tube to size, which I already did and it didn't work, has anyone else tried this and what problems did you encounter?

Although we haven't done the install yet we do not recomend using 2" filler hose. We recomend 1" 1/4" and do sell it also. The 1 1/4" gas filler hose we sell has a steel wire imbedded in it and can be darn near bent onto itself without kinking. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

If I could use the 1 1/4" filler hose I would, but the filler neck itself is 2" and the filler hose will not bend enough to get 3/4" extra out of it. I have 1 1/2 filler hose as a compromise and it doesn't work either. I have already cut my bed up and the filler door is already in, so I am at the point of no return. I would like to finnish this without it looking like ****e.

Either get an adapter to go from 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 at the hardware store, or go to the muffler shop, and have them stretch you a piece of pipe to the right sizes. Weld the adapter to the filler and install. Then just install using the 1 1/4 hose. Good luck, Jeff.

If it were 1 1/2 I could stretch the 1 1/4 hose to fit, but the filler is 2" diameter. I think I found what I need at the local salvage yard today, but we'll see on Sunday when I get a chance to try it out.

How does the stake bed pocket come off? Have you fabricated a new one for it?

You don't cut the stake pocket out, just a portion of the interior bedside and the floor directly beside the bedside cutout. The idea is to bend a piece of 1/8" plate at a 90 degree angle and weld it to the corner and to the side to cover the hole.

Josh,sent you an e-mail this morning ! Don't know what the differance is between your filler tube and mine,but the problem can be resolved i'm sure !!! Looks to me as if you need to come off of the filler neck with two inch fuel tubing and when it gets to your bend,you can take a piece of copper tubing (or something that you can bent to get the right curve) and bent it too the right contour that you need to go to your tank and take that piece with you to a muffler shop (i would use alimium(?) for this) and have them to bend it in the curve that you need and also with the right size specs on each end to fit your fuel tubeing !!! Wa-la,problem solved,no kinks and everything fits snung now !!! This whole process ain't as hard as sum people make it out to be really ! Just takes sum time and alot of thinking and common sense ! No offense to be taken here either. It took me about a week to make mine work and two trips to the salvage yard. I have answered i know at least a thousand e-mails about this trick filler lite thing. So take a break and don't get upset to any of ya'll who trys this process. Good things comes to those who thinks out lifes little trails ! Good luck on this Josh however you decide to do it,at least your trying !!!

Tennman, I opted to leave the stake pocket in and just cut around it. I don't have any problems with it making for poor clearance issues. The only problem I am having is the plumbing issues. My neighbor is going to make an enclosure to fit around the filler neck behind the light out of stainless sheet when I am finished and have the time to draw it out. Why does it "HAVE TO" come out anyway? The door is already on and functional, and the filler neck fits fine, so why did you feel you had to remove the stake pocket?
