Snowplow causing overheating!

I've got an 86 1/2 ton with a Blizzard snow plow and i cannot get it to cool on the road. I bought the optional "Airfoil" to re-direct the air off of the plow but it did no good. Anyone else have this problem? As soon as i stop or if I'm not on the highway it NEVER overheats...

Try angling the plow all the way to the left or right and run it as low to the ground as you can!!!!!

Change the clutch of the cooling fan, or install an electric "pusher" fan in front of the radiator. A bigger radiator (say from a 454 1-ton truck) will help too.

How high are you transporting the plow on the highway? Have you tried different hights/angles?
What size radiator are you running? 2,3 or 4 core radiator?

I've tried every angle and blade position, with and without the airfoil...My radiator is stock, it was an original 305 auto with A/C, probably a 2 or 3 core...if it cools w/o the plow, I shouldn't need a larger radiator. I just need a way to get air through it! I would like to run a direct drive fan (no clutch), is this possible? Most aftermarket fans that I've seen aren't big enough for my shroud, if they don't don't fit tight enough they won't cool right. I'm currently running a seven blade i believe, it should move plenty of air. I do have an electric fan laying around, maybe I can install it as a pusher...thanks for the input guys...

having a larger radiator generally requires less airflow through it to achieve the same cooling effect, so that's why I mentioned it as an alternative to the e-fan stuff. Direct-drive fan shouldn't make all that much of a difference, as the clutch locks up under high temperature and effectively becomes a direct-drive hub. You can keep the stock fan tho, just fab-up a solid-face hub to bolt to it, then use the correct length aluminum spacer to bolt the whole thing to yer water pump - however, expect a slightly decreased fuel economy when not using the plow and just running around with the grille wide open to airflow.

I have a western 8 footer on the front of my truck, and before I replaced the radiator it used to get warm on teh highway. I would guess yours might be clogged up, or not working as good as it once would have. In order for me to get around it, I used to run the plow down pretty low to allow as much air as possible. I would suggest a rad flush or something, and you probably won't have any problems. Good luck.
