77 Bonanza Paint Getting Close

I went by the paint shop where my Bonanza has been for FOUR MONTHS!!! HE finally got it almost done painted. I was favorably impressed on the looks. He still has to paint the hood and inside doors. I'll get some pics on Sat and post them. I went with the same stock colors - Russet Metallic and Buskskin. He's going to put a yellow stipe to accent the two colors where the trim used to be. I had him weld up the trim holes all around except the piece right behind the cab. I have had it in the shop so long I've almost forgotten how good it is going to look! I have the bumper at the plater and it's ready. He's also plating the headlight trim buckets. I'll get a new grille and it will look pretty darn nice. Pics tomorrow. Here is what it went up there looking like.

Here it is with most of the painting done. Ochre yellow stripe between colors is still to come.

New wheels and tires, new upholstery, a few other things, and I'll be done, for now.

Re: 77 Bonanza Paint Getting Close

Drove it home just a few minutes ago. Looks good. Leo has a few touch ups to do on the yellow stripe. But he polished out the clear coat very nicely (hard to see in the rain). He centered the hood after remounting it, per my request. Other than that, not bad for a fairly inexpensive paint job ($2300). He also did the driver's side inside door, to boot.

All dents removed
All trim holes welded and smoothed (except for behind the cab)
Two tone paint
Base coat clear coat
Ochre yellow trim line laid down
Inside/outside of hood painted
Bed given "token" paint job
All DuPont paint products

I replaced the right door, hood, tailgate, front bed panel, dash pad, radio, speaker, and body bushings. I have the front bumper ready to pick up at the chrome shop along with the headlight "buckets." Going to get a new grille from the local Chevy house (1978 - 77's are all gone). The front end should look pretty darn good!

Re: 77 Bonanza Paint Getting Close

$2300 for the paint and body work. Door, hood, tailgate, etc was a bunch more and I did all that work. I could have done most of the hole welding, and straighteneing had I known he would have taken 4.5 months to do the paint!

Re: 77 Bonanza Paint Getting Close

Got the rear bumper back on. Nothing new here. I was going to have the top Line-x'ed for $75 but the overall tale tell rust freckles made it something to put off until I can decide on a new bumper. It will do for now. The front bumper is back from the chrome shop. I Cosmolined the back side to keep the rust at bay. Once it goes down, it's almost impossible to get off. You can see (maybe) where I had to cut the overriders to accept the new style of rubber bumpers. Just some Dremel tool work.

And lastly, here's what NOT TO DO when you are working under the car! Dropped a 3/8" drive socket handle with large socket right on my eye! Ouch. Swelled up about a half inch tall and the next day the black eye set in. That was close to the ole eyeball itself.
