yay new problem!!!(well not really)

ok so last week i went on an after work food run(i work nights). so pulling forward through the drive through at toxic hell(taco bell) i put it in park while waiting at the window since manual breaks suck. well i went to put it in drive and since the idle was a little high i was expecting a bit of a hard engagement. but when it engaged, it engaged so hard that it made my truck jump forward and after that made it start to run like it is missing. so does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be?? i'm thinking at this point of changing the motor out, but if i can do it cheaper then i'll do that. info on the drive train is sbc 307(or so i believe) and turbo 400.

Depending on what moved and what didn't, you wouldn't be the first one to have a distributor cap come into contact with the firewall, and have a miss as a result of the broken cap/rotor/?? If it has been "banging" when you put it in gear, the idle is too high. But you may also have some worn engine mounts, transmission mount, etc. It's safe to say that something ain't right.

Check and see if a plug wire fell off.

Re: yay new problem!!!(well not really)

well me and my buddy and i checked the plug wires and they are all fine. the cap might be a suspect, i'll have to look after i get off work. he said that when he was messing with the wires on the dizzy cap the motor seemed to pick up just a bit. the high idle i think is because the throttle on my edelbrock 1405 carb doesn't fully return to idle unless i kinda pull it to the idle position.

Re: yay new problem!!!(well not really)

My guess would be to check the dis. cap, wires, and vac lines. I have to agree that if it jerked that hard the timing and or the idle needs to be adjusted slightly.

Just my thoughts though,,,,,

You posted while I was typing lol

Might try a heavier spring/double spring on the throttle return to pull it completely closed or clean the carb(don't know how dirty your engine is)

If things changed while playing with your wires,,,,,,,,cap, rotor and wires would be the best suspect.

Re: yay new problem!!!(well not really)

so my buddy and i did a compression check on the motor tonite and found that i had 2 cylinders with low compression. cylinders 2 and 4 had maybe 100 psi of pressure and the rest had 150 +/- 10 psi. but the thing is i am not burning any oil. what could be the issue??

Re: yay new problem!!!(well not really)

60ratrod,, I'm in pikes peak park. Spent all of middle school and high school in the meadows. Moved up to villige seven after high school though and chose to come back down to the south end.

Where were you?

Re: yay new problem!!!(well not really)

we checked the cap and all the wires. the timing did slip a bit, but not much. the plugs were fine. but the 100 psi on the 2 cylinders seems wrong to me since the other 6 had 150psi =/- 10psi. but i'm over it. i'm getting another motor.

sick, i spent some time up in the rockrimmon area. but mostly lived in the stratmoore hills area by ft carson the after i graduated back in dec of '02 i moved to penrose with my dad and joined the navy from there and now stationed up in washington.
