Yes,they interchange. The door panels, and regulators are different between the 2 but the whole door will swap over.

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
The dimple under the went window will be missing from the 68 door and the window and door regulators shafts will be too short for the 72 plastic door panels.

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
So basically, If I do the swap I will have to buy door panels for a 68 and regulators for a 68. Hmmm, I don't know if it is worth it....

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
You could swap the 72 regulator into the 68 door so you can still use the 72 door panel. You just won't have the dimple under the wing window.

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
Ahhh, gotcha. So the final deal is this. No dimple on the 68 doors and I need to buy new regulators anyways so if I buy 72's they will fit in the 68 door and solve the problem of the short shaft and I can still use my panels off of my 72?

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
Correct! Some guys don't like the dimple on one side but not the other but if you can live with it them your set.
All of the parts inside the doors are as interchangable as the doors themselves. The only issue is the shaft length on the 72s being longer than the other years. Or you could change both doors to the 68s and not have the dimple on either side. With the 72 regulators you can still use the 72 door panels. Frank

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
Make sure you put the door handle studs (the part that the inside door handle goes on) because the shaft on it is longer just like the window regulator is.
BTW, I don't think there are any stupid questions. I'd much rather ask a noobie question than buy a box full of stuff I can't use!

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
one other small problem, the panels are not retained to the door the same way. I can't remember off the top of my head, and my door panels are installed on my 72 at the moment, but the 72 has the plastic pop on/pop off retaining studs, while the 67 - 71 have the screws and trim on top.
Still doable, but something els that needs adressed. |

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
What is the dimple hole used for anyway? Explain its use, please.

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
I believe the dimple hole/screw is to help hold the door panel together?
Longhorn man- The panels that are on my doors now have the plastic retainers as well as screws on each cornor. Is that what you meant?

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
Right, and the older ones have 4 huge screws in the bottom, and a chrome (or painted) chanel on top that holds the panel on.

Re: will 68 doors fit on a 72?
I forgot about that Anday, but you're right. When I did it, I drilled out the 4 holes in the bottom of the panel, and you have to take the the strip that holds the 67-71 doors that the top. I think there are 4 screws that hold it one, and I had to srill them out too. I can't remember the drioll size, but I just measured the holes in a '72 door. The good thing is that all the screw holes in the 67-71 doors are in the same location as the holes for the push-in clips on the '72 doors.
