Idea For Metal Bed

I have spent numerous hours enjoying this site and researching various post. On or 69 GMC we thought about a bedwood conversion, but in searching post I saw a picture that someone took at a car show (I think in Arizona) of a truck with a metal bed made to look like a wooden bed- it looked like they had put chrome strips between the ridges in the bed to make the surface flush. To me this was way cool and I am thinking about doing it, if feasible.

Will the metal strips from a wooden bed work to do this or would you need to get metal strips cut fit fit the width and depth to get the flush look? I have looked for 2 days and cannot find that picture again, nor can I find any searching the internet. I would be very interested in finding this picture and any information concerning doing this project to a metal bed. The bed we have is good and straight with very little rust, just spray on lining which can go away.

Any help on locating this picture and/or ideas on doing this?

I don't know if this helps any, but the truck on the cover of custom classic trucks has a metal bed floor with stainless stips in it. but in the mag it doesn't say anything more about it. It's the december issue.

The owners name is Ed Arensdorf according to the article. A quick search shows him to be the Senior Vice President of United Road Towing the Nation's Largest Towing Company.

The bed is sheetmetal with polished stainless strips. Not very functional, but certainly bad @ss looking.

neat idea, could you not use a wood floor bed and have a sheet metal shop make you some custom metal "wood" pieces? what i mean to say is measure the hight and width of the wood floors metal strips and then have some metal bent up to replace the wood, that would have the correct recess for the original metal strips? i can't figure out how to say it but maybe you can get the jist of it. good luck, Tony
