Neutral Safety Dilema

After changing my three speed manual to a van column tilt automatic I realized I only have one plug (L-shaped) under my dash with a green and blue wire. I believe this is the backup wires. What do I do about the neutral safety wires?PLEASE HELP

Sorry the truck plug has two green wires (light/dark green)

find the heavy gauge purple wire going from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid cut it in half and plput ends on it and connect to nss

he's putting in an automatic.
I just feel its a retarded feature. If you park the truck in drive and walk away from it, you deserve to get the crap scared outta you when you fire it up in gear.
Just my opinion though. many will get in line to tell me I'm wrong though.
If you feel you may start it in gear, then you can just cut the purple wire as stated above.
Being that your truck never had one since the day it was built, there's nothing requiring you to have one now. (as far as any state inspection goes)

Its funny, the manual shift trucks never had it, yet I get flamed for saying it doesn't matter in an automatic. Even though when you park a stick shift, you LEAVE IT IN GEAR.

Don't forget the backup lights work off the NSS on an automatic. It's going to be fun to find the circuit though when the switch was on the manual tranny. FWIW I think the NSS is a must. If he forgets and starts it in gear with the accelerator pressed a little there goes the car in front or behind or the garage door etc. etc. It only takes once.

And to all those who have had their legs broken when standing in between the truck and another vehicle when it's started up. That van column most likely already has a nss on it so why not hook it up. Cheap insurance.

My 71 hasn't had one since I installed the 700-R4 in it. Yes it maybe a nice addition but not a have too for these years. I for one don't park my truck that close to anything. After the first few times of leaving it in gear you will learn to make sure it's in park or neutral!

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

This is what happens to the best of us when you don't wire in the NSS safety feature into an automatic.

Not only did it ding the bezel, but it dented and pushed down the fender and pushed back the bumper as well.

Take the time. Do it right. Save some $ and some pride swallowing.

that vid was hilarious! but not having a nss is kinda nice when you stall out in the middle of an intersection when you need to start and get your ass going! had that happen to me when i was working out the kinks in my 72(well the 1st time i was working the kinks out of the 72 anyway)

Everything that I have owned for quite a while are manuals. I am used to leaving the vehicle in whatever gear I'm in. My truck has no emergency brake currently so leaving it in gear IS the parking brake.

The other day I had a loaner from the Toyota dealership. It took me a minute to figure out how to remove the key because the automatic transmission needs to be in park to remove it. I felt stupid for a little bit. Then I got my car back the next day.
