Got the 70's new motor running tonite!

Got it running tonite about 8pm....after cam break in I drove it around for a few minutes. 'Bout the smoothest swap and the smoothest running 350 I have ever driven!

Sounds completely different in tone than the motor it replaced. We kept the same block but I got better heads for it and I can tell by the sound we're breathing a little better.

Going to go on a maiden run tomorrow to get a few stocking stuffers for the wife....sure feels good to have the old boy running again...now I gotta come up with a new name for it since I'll be painting it Charcoal color soon.

I swapped the stock 62 amp alt for a 1987 Silverado 93amp 1-wire internally regulated alt. We jumped a couple of wires and we were done!

All in all this was the easiest and least touble I have ever had swapping motors. Anyway, the motor pics are up on page four...more photos tomorrow night!

The Motor Swap

That was a fast turn around from the engine shop. Glad it's working out for you. I have a 40 over 350 with the rv cam. I guess that makes it a 357. Not driven mine yet but some day.

I liked the color combo and your valve covers also great looking motor. Let us know how the paint held up on the headers.

Re: Got the 70's new motor running tonite!

Unfortunately the paint on the headers from the factory burns off very quickly. I coulod recoat with the 1700-2000 degree paint from VHT, but it's not imperative since this is my work truck. For the stepside I'll be going with ceramic coated headers.

The paint on everything else is working out very well. There's at least 7 coats on everything I painted ['cept the headers]. On the intake and covers I coated with clear lacquer [last 3 coats] for a total of 10. On those I went with flat black, but with each coat it was obvious it wasn't going to match the block, that's where I got the idea to paint the truck charcoal to match the top half of the motor and everything else will be gloss black like the block.
