flushing a gas tank?

ok this may sound dumb and so basic but is there a specific way i have to flush a gas tank out. its not installed on the truck its taken off and all by itself the few things i read said i can just wash it out and as long as the water dries well enough to not mix with the gas then ill be ok... my question is this good enough or is there something else i have to do or is this not even acceptable. any info would be greatly appreciated.

I took my tank to a radiator shop to get it steam cleaned because there was a few inches of dirt and rust builup in the bottom. The shop even applied a coating inside the tank to prevent it from rusting ever again. Only cost $40 bucks.

i just did the same exact thing, try a radiator shop.

I have old magazines (Hot Rod, Car Craft, etc.) and there were articles about refurbishing gas tanks that used rocks in the tank, that you then shook and rattlled to break up an loosen any rust. After you dumped the rocks out, you had to rinse out all the loosened "stuff". Then, you dumped a can of Hirsch gas tank sealer into it and sloshed it around to coat the tank.

$40 at a radiator shop is a bargain.

thanks a lot guys i think im just gonna take it to one of said radiator shops. theres one right up the street. he actually said since its a an older truck which he loves hed do it for 30

Ive had good luck with deisel fuel and gravel..alil bit more redneck but it usally works pretty goood...you should let it dry out before reinstalling it tho..but deisel usally eats away at gas tank varnish pretty decent and the gravel does the rest
