Talking Well It's Mine

Well it is home..... Now that I have it the questions are numerious, I filled it up with gas and when it was full I looked back and there was a 1/4" hose coming out of the top of the tank and it was spewing gas everywhere so I stuffed a screw in it ....I have no idea where it is suppose to go any ideas. I did find out it is a 71 not a 72 is there much difference between the two?

About a year!

Sorry I couldn't help it. The 1/4" line is probably a vent or return line.
71 or 72 doesn't matter that thing is SWEET!!!

Since it's home where are the rest of the pics??????

Re: Well It's Mine

The frame is different on the back, the rear view mirror is mounted on the windshield frame instead of glued to the windshield. The doors have a brace near the vent window in late 71's and 72's so yours may or may not have it. The inside door molding is different in the 71's than the 72's also. That's all I can think of. Oh and 71 is the first year of disk brakes I believe on the front and supposedly the front axle has other things different about it.

Re: Well It's Mine

there were minor differences in the grill , I believe it was just in the way they painted it(not an issue with your custom tube grill). All 72's came with front disc brakes, but it was an option in '71. The gas filler tube is a different size on '72s than the rest. Other than that (and what JTRUX stated, it was mostly cosmetic subtleties.

I agree, the fuel line was probably a vent line. You probably got a siphoning effect going on once the fuel pump started pulling the gas.

Nice looking truck. Can't wait to see more pictures.

Dude I'm dying to check it out. On a day like today you should roll up the sides on the soft top and cruise. I'm getting ready to do an engine swap today, so if you're on the n.w. side stop by. 269-8322. Later, Mario.

Re: Well It's Mine

The aluminum diamond plate doesn't look that bad on a lifted 4x4. I have to agree if you don't have anything else pressing to do roll the top up and cruise it abit. Anyway that is a great looking blazer hope you enjoy it.

Merry Christmas!

The hose is most likely your vent hose. There should be one on each side of the tank. If the other one is plugged, and you've added a screw to that one, you might end up pulling a vacuum on your tank as the fuel is pumped out. If you end up having difficulty starting it, try pulling off the gas cap.

That hose should tee in with the hose from the other side and go up to your charcoal filter located by your battery tray (If you're thinking about making it normal). I'm kinda suprised it's a 1/4" hose though. I think mine is 3/8".

Re: Well It's Mine

It just occured to me... does that have a fuel pump in the tank? I see you're running fuel injection. If that's the case, you want to really make sure you have an open vent line. Bad things can happen.

Disc brakes came stock on the front of all 71s,they weren't optioned with them and have came stock with front discs since.Yes the front axle is a little different but only because of the disc brakes being added.Only the outer stuff like the knuckles, etc are different. The grill has a different paint scheme, mirror is on the windshield frame instead of windshield like 72s,and the back of the frame doesn't come down like the 72s and doesn't have the notch in the tub for where the frame comes down..Door panels and doors are different.Double wall top was only available and won't have the holes in the tub for both styles..
Sweet blazer.I'm glad you got it.

Re: Well It's Mine

sweet blazer dude --- i dont have one of this vintage yet, but only because i havent liquidated any of my other projects ---

having a blazer like this is on my "must have" list before i die -- But for me , i will just cruise my '88 and keep saving.

I have mixed emotions on the diamond plate --- in a way, its cool, but in another way, it looks like a truck stop nightmare -- The rest looks kick - in the pics

FI should have a closed loop, right?
Don't believe there should be an open vent line if running FI.

Re: Well It's Mine

Thats right on the FI. Once its running the fuel that is unused is being ran back into the tank, and if you have an open vent thats not well above the level of the tank, it'll push fuel out. Your overflow tube in the filler neck will work for this, so if you just plug the rest of the vents, you should be ok. Thats how I am running the Blazer tank on the TPI in my 71.

Nice looking Blazer and Congrats!!
