Column shifter sticky

I am sure there is a thread about this very thing , but I couldn't find it.
found some similar ones . Heres the deal ATM column shifter won't hardly go
front (forward) or back (rearward) kinda tuff side to side (P to 1st)
I lubed the linkage w/o pulling anything apart (underhood) seems to me the lever itself my be binding with dirt and corrosion at pivot ? Do I need to drive out roll pin and lube up or has something let loose inside ?
Thanks in advance !

Re: Column shifter sticky

Drive out the pin holding the lever in & pull the lever out. Spray a lubricant all around inside the hole. Spray some lube around the bottom of the column where the lever comes out that has the rod going to the trans. You can remove one 1/4 " bolt above the lower lever opening & one below & spray in the holes but don,t remove more then one at a time. That usually will fix it but if not you will have to pull the column & rebuild it.

Re: Column shifter sticky

first thing i'd do is disconnect the tranny linkage and see if it frees up the column if it does your problem isnt in the column

Re: Column shifter sticky

Mine has been sticky for a long time. I took out the pin and pulled the lever out of the column, and sprayed WD-40 in around where the tube slides up and down. Now it shifts nice!!!!!!

Re: Column shifter sticky

FIXED I think ? had some really thick old grease very wax like , scrapped that off and pulled out some nylon chunks ? and lubed , now its very smooth .
A lil concerned about whatever "guide?" I pulled out but I'll give it a go .
Thanks for your input !
