I usually pull the hub assembly, and then grind the rivets off. Much easier to get into next time.

Re: How to remove front 6 lug drums ???

Penetration oil plus time to let it soak in and a large hard rubber hammer. It will break loose it won't be all beat up from a metal hammer. Last resort, dead blow or sledge. On a funny note, I watched a guy inialate a rear drum for 2 hours. It came right off after released the emergency brake. True story and no names mentioned. It wasn't me either. David

You might have to go through the knockout and back the brakes off...
Are you sure you are ground off flush?

Re: How to remove front 6 lug drums ???

After you grind off the rivit heads beat them thru with a big punch. They will end up in the brakes but they will fall out after you get the drum off. I bought a 65 once and in 20 years they were still on there. Air hammer sheared the heads off, punch them thru and tapped betwwen the wheel studs to break the rust loose. If the brakes have worn a groove in the drum you will prob have to back off the shoes to pull the drums

Re: How to remove front 6 lug drums ???

I pulled the hub/drum together & ground thae rivits off flush at the bench grinder. I then took the drum, held it 6 inches off the ground & droped it (inside part down) until the hub dropped out. i only needed the drum for a brake job-the hub was toast anyway.
