Longhorn???

Im going to look at a 1970 longhorn 3/4 ton tomorow. I dont know much about them. its supposed to be a solid truck, all the usual problem spots are supposed to be good (rockers, cab mounts, cab corners, lowwer fender, floors.) Its an all origonal numbers matching, comes with every imaginary documentation. its a 350 3 speed manual. My plan is to restore the truck to origonal. My question is, if a 1970 longhorn is restored to origonal, numbers matching with this drivetrain, what would the value range be? Also are longhorns hard to find and are they desireable. Give me your opinion, Thanks

Re: Longhorn???

sucks to say it, but by 75% of the people out there, they are the 3rd least desirable truck, beaten out only by the 9 foot step, and the 8 foot step side trucks.

Re: Longhorn???

hmm, ok, so would i be better off using the good cab and front-end and mounting them on a 71 1/2 ton frame? and try to fixe my not-so-good long box? i figured that becasue this is an uncomon truck that it would be worth more.

Hey Longhorn Man...I was wondering what your thoughts would be. Question...If a longhorn was a fully factory optioned truck would that help the value or desirability or not?

Re: Longhorn???

You can put the 1/2 ton parts under the longhorn. It may not be as easy, but will be different.

Re: Longhorn???

are you fixing up a truck for you, or for profit?
If it's for you, then screw what 75% of the ppl think... what do YOU think?

Personally, to me, I would take a longhorn over a 1/2 ton LWB any day.

Any loaded truck will be more desirable than a stripped down truck any day of the week.

Re: Longhorn???

koolky...if you are looking at doing a flip...then keep the fix up $$$ as low as possible because for the most part this will not be a highly desirable truck as for as collectability. Most likely the future buyer of this truck will be one who is buying it as a work truck and not as a collector truck.

Re: Longhorn???

Sad but true...RARE does not always equal DESIREABLE!

If you are looking to make money on a restoration...forget about trucks and stick with !st gen Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs, Hemi-Cudas, big block Chevelles, any muscle car, early Harleys...stuff that is DESIREABLE first and RARE second.

I do this for recreation and enjoyment since I can make more money per hour working another job than by restoring a truck to sell. Just my 0.02!

Why is that? I can see why step sides are not desirable (at least to me), but anyone using a truck as a truck would have to appreciate the extra bed length.

Re: Longhorn???

It would be foolish not to restore it as is.A restored Longhorn will be worth more than a pieced from parts mixed up serial number low option longbed 1/2t.I think that truck restored would be worth more than the same optioned C/10 longbed restored.Nothing special about the C/10...something special about all Longhorns. They may not bring a wide following. But,to those who care,a restored and correct truck will always have a good value.A restored basic longbed C/10?Yawn...I don`t see the big following there. Most guys would see it as an empty canvas to build off of.Only, they won`t want to pay alot for what was done since they`d just start changing things.
