Another new member, from PA

Hi, I just signed up to learn what I can about a 67 C10 I'm buying. I won it on eBay and I go to pick it up this weekend. It supposedly runs and is said to be solid, but rough. I won't bore you here with the details here, I'll just post that in the 67-72 section. Here is a link to the eBay item... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...188914498&rd=1

My father bought a 72 C10 long bed fleet side with a 350/TH350. It was his first new vehicle and his first truck. I learned a lot about working on cars by working on that thing. I adopted it as soon as I was trustworthy and basically cared for it until he traded it in. He didn't ask me or I would have taken it from him. I was devastated when I first heard he traded it. Anyway, this will be MY first Glamour year C10, rather ours (me and the wife).

The funny thing about us getting this truck. I was looking for an old junk truck to score a 454 BBC donor engine for my race car. I saw this one day and yelled to her, "hey want to go to St. Louis and pick up an engine?" She said "Um, I'll take Hell NO for 100 Alex". So I dropped it pretty fast, but it was looking sweet to me. A cool truck I've been wanting for a while and the engine for the car, all cheap. Then, one day I notice that it was back on FleeBay and said, "hey that truck is back up for sale". She looked over at the computer screen and said, "wow, that's a cool looking truck. are you going to bid on it?" I said "yea, it's got a 454 too." She said, "great, you could put that in the caprice. Or, just leave it in the truck and we'll get you a 502 for the race car instead." I said, "who are you?" Anyway, we won and now we're planning to pack up the dogs and head halfway across the country this weekend to pick it up.

Anyway, this looks like a really nice forum. I'm excited about restoring this thing and look forward to all the advice and expertise that you folks have to offer.

Considering that you only paid $100 more than I did for my old 6cyl turd... I'd say you did really well.

Oh I think I got a great deal. Too bad for the seller tho, he lost 500 because the first buyer got squirrely on him. He said he paid over 1,800 for it a year ago, but is selling it because of a 66 Chevelle he's now building.

I hope to have this thing at least running and street worthy with a little fresh pain by the summer. Do you ever get to Maple Grove? My engine builder lives out in Fleetwood. I'm sure I'll have it over at his place quite a bit getting it ready.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Been to Maple Grove a gazillion times. Maybe more.

This was Super Chevy '98. I don't get to the track much anymore like I use to. A wife and 5 kids will really cut into the fun budget.

Nice launch. I always hook at the Grove, but I prefer to race at Cecil these days. I'll be damn, I'm pretty sure that I had #517 at my first Super Chevy at the Grove in 04.

Yeah, some of my best times were at Cecil. I've only been down the track a handfull of times in the last 5 years or so. Prior to that, it was several times a summer. Strictly as a hobby... never made any money doing it.
That run above was one of the best made in that car. That was an 8.46 @ 159 run... with a 60ft in the high 1.20's. (can't remember exactly anymore)
The car was still street legal, and had a BBC with a plate system.

I had loads of fun with that car.

Since then, I've had another Camaro (8.30's @ 165) and two Turbo Buicks, both low-11/high-10 sec cars. I had the most fun with the Buicks, as I could drive them anywhere (and did). They are a tough car to beat on the street, and they are cheap too. My 87 Grand National went 10.95 first time down the track... and I'll bet I had no more than $8k into it.

I never cared much for the Maple Grove management / ownership, so I would drive the extra hour to Cecil pretty regularly.
I only live 15 minutes from Maple Grove.

Re: Another new member, from PA

Yea, Cecil is great for fast times. It's down hill and always has a tailwind with much better DA than other tracks. It's our cheater track.

Things are changing at MG http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=150416, thankfully. However, they get so many cars that it's just not as much fun. I'm equal distance from Cecil and MG, so I may try MG again at least once.
