Engine Out

Here's a couple of pics of my 72 in my cramped cold garage...as I was unbolting the transmission from the bellhousing and my breath was blowin' steam, I was thinkin how nice it would be to live out west...for just a few minutes...I'm a east coast guy, snow, ice, firewood, hey, it's all good.

I'm 59, this is my retirement truck, no hurry, and alot of fun

I am almost out as far west as you can get and I am seeing my breath too. It is cold out here right now, I think the high was 42 which is cold for us.

Re: Engine Out

Robin, hope that at 59 I will still be up to the task of working in the cold shop as you are doing. Looks like you have a great start. Keep us updated as the progress goes forward. Just to let you know that in northern Utah it has been a high in the mid twenties and a low of five in dark hours. Last time I checked Utah is out west.

Re: Engine Out

I am about 1500 miles in the middle of extd56 and Robin. It's stinkin' cold here in Kansas! Robin, is your truck medium blue? I think that is the color I am going to paint my 67 stepper! Hope it warms up for you soon!

Cool truck!

Re: Engine Out

Nice replys, I guess I should have been a little more clear, sounds like I was thinkin' everybody west of the Missisippi wears shorts and sandals all winter...DUH...pretty dumb...Haha.
Southern Cal and AZ is what I had in mind, I love looking at those nice trucks you guys have.

Got the engine on the stand, and dropped the trans down from inside the cab with the cherry picker this morning.

The wife wants the garage back for her Suburu (yuk), so I'll be rolling the cab/frame outside for the winter while I clean up the engine and trans, maybe find a floor for my bed.

Re: Engine Out

I remember those days in Pennsylvania (and northern Japan for that matter) trying to do things like that in a nonexistent (or heated) garage. Truck looks good especially coming from your neck of the woods. I think the Northeast is hell for any vehicle.

Re: Engine Out

Robin, I am just starting to pull my engine out of old yellar; that is my 67 Chevy 2WD C10. Hope to have it out buy new years day. To bad the wife need the shop back, I know that can slow things down some days. Sounds like she a good lady, any wife that puts up with us gear-heads is golden. I am very lucky to have such a lady in my life. I am a little more blessed as that I have a 30' by 48' shop out back so the wife can have the house garage all year long. Best of luck and Happy new Year!

My daughter was living down by San Diego last Christmas when I went to visit her and as I remember it was freezing in the morning, about 35 degrees.

Re: Engine Out

I live about 45 minutes from extd56 and its been in the high 20's at night, I like my propane heater for the garage give it about 20 minutes and your out there with a t shirt, I insulated my garage door and the roof thats the ticket to making the most out of the little propane heater, I wish I would have insulated the walls before I hung the sheetrock it would have made it that much better. Good luck with the truck, bearing the cold will make it taste that much sweeter when its all done.
extd56 thats pretty dang cold for San Diego its always warm done there.
