Question rear shackle flip ???

anyone here using the off road design shackle flip? i just did the exhaust system on a customer's blazer and he had one installed on his truck. he hasn't used it yet so i went to the website and read about it, 4 inches of lift with no blocks.last year i purchased a brand new 4 inch lift kit off craigslist- tuff country, front springs, rear blocks, shocks, steering arm and hardware- for 150 bucks but i'm not a fan of blocks since i've rolled two sets of 4 inch blocks in the past. if anyone has experience with this company, i'd be interested in your feedback before i order a set. thanks in advance.

Re: rear shackle flip ???

I have never used the shackle flip but you might try Yukon Jack, he has one on his 69 flatbed and from what I have heard they work great.
I can however vouch for the company, I have used Off Raod Designs greasable heavy duty shackles and there heavy duty upper spring eye conversion along with there croosover steering setup...all great products that are of high quallity.

Re: rear shackle flip ???

The only thing I don't like about the shackle flip was it moved the rear axle forward a bit and when I had the fleetside bed on my 69 K20, I didn't like the look. Doesn't matter at all now that I have the flatbed on there. A Zero-rate block from ORD could be used to help get the rear axle centered in the wheelwell after doing the flip. I have hauled a bunch of wood on the truck and pulled a few heavy hay trailers and have never had any issues with the flip. It is well built product.

Here's a link showing the install of the shackle flip and here is a pic prior to the flatbed which shows the placement of the rear axle after the flip.

Re: rear shackle flip ???

I haven't used one but am going to on both my son's blazer and my daughter's 79 swb. I do know that Stephen owner of ord wheels his stuff and uses it. I have talked to him on the phone a couple times seems to be a great guy to deal with.

Re: rear shackle flip ???

It's a tough product that works great...I made my own axle offset plates to put the rear end back where it should be. Not to take anything away from ORD....but it would be fairly simple to make your own with a welder and a chop saw.

Re: rear shackle flip ???

I got a set and I love'um. Mounted right up, springs and flex more. If you have a lot of arch in your springs it will move your axle a bit. My springs have about 5" of arch and it didn't noticably move my axle.

The fit and finish is first rate.

Check your pinion angle when your all done. I didn't have to adjust mine, but some might.

Re: rear shackle flip ???

I got em’ too. Good stuff. Pre-’73 truck definitely need the zero rate spring to move the axle backward in order for them to look right. That doesn’t seem to be a problem on ’73 and up.

My truck has become a rolling bill board for ORD lately. I have the 4” rear shackle flip, heavy duty front greasable shackles, sway bar disconnect, steering box brace and high clearance HD engine cross-member.

Here is the link to the shack flip project…

Re: rear shackle flip ???

If you use the shackle flip you do not need new springs for the rear, just for the front?
Thanks
Ron

Re: rear shackle flip ???

I have a pair of 6" front springs for my shortbed K/30.I will use the shackle-flip and 2" EZ-Ride springs.Along with a list of ORD goodies.I ordered the flip-kit once and the money order never made it.By the time BOA reimbursed me it was over 3 months later and the money went elsewhere.
