Question Misc questions

Hello: First off I found my 84 GMC with a leaky 305 and a burnt 700R4 trany, put a rebuilt 700R4in, and a 1967 283 punched 30 over. Took all the emissions out and charcol canister out, plugged the one line coming from the fuel pump. Is this a wise move or Am I causing a problem. 2nd I rebuilt the carb from the 305 and a new choke and the choke light is always on. Thanks.

Re: Misc questions

Welcome to the site.
The canister has one line to vent the fuel tanks. I would leave it connected.

Is the choke getting 12 volts? The choke light works with two inputs. The choke is one. The other is a oil pressure sensor near the oil filter.

Re: Misc questions

Thank you gch, With the 67 block the oil pres is not connected (no hole) so that might be why the choke light is on. I was goig to put it where the single oil senders were located (behind the distriuter)

Re: Misc questions

The 283 is a good little engine. I had 77 LWB truck during my high school years. The 283 spun a bearing one day. I pulled the motor, turned the crank and installed new bearings. I sold the truck while I was in the Army. I heard the truck was still running five years after I sold it.

Ground the oil pressure wire. The choke light should turn off.

Do you have any pictures?

Re: Misc questions

Use a website like Webshots to host your pictures.

I do. I don't have to worry about band width use.

Re: Misc questions

Of all the vehicles colored yellow, these trucks are one of the best looking.

Re: Misc questions

You have wheels just like mine! Color combo is actually kinda cool. What tires are those, look a bit too big to be factory size?

Re: Misc questions

283 + 700R4... that sounds like a very cool combo. That would be a blast with some 3.73 gears in the rear.

Re: Misc questions

The tires are 31, 10.5, 15s, they were on it when I bought it. The engine and trany combo works well, the rear end not sure, what works well with the 700R4?

Re: Misc questions

The rear end in the truck (if its stock to the truck) should be optimized for great mileage if its a '84

With your 31" tires, some 4.10 gears would work great. The 700r4 has a 0.70 overdrive, which would put you right around 2200rpm at 70mph.

Re: Misc questions

Nice truck, I am interested in how your engine, tranny works out, I've got a 73 with an inline 6 that I'm hoping will wear out some day, so I can put a 327 or 283 in. those engines seem to be getting rare, especially not bored. they always been my fav chev s/b's. Keep us informed, and best of luck, bob
