I´d take it back and have them cleaning it up and drain some fluid and then try to get something back in form of money or a can of oil!

Is the speedocableport supposed to leak trannyoil when the truck is not driven for a few weeks? Or is there a gasket or something that is not ok when it leaks?

No tranny is supposed to leak, Most have a O-ring around the speedo drive head.

I fixed the high fluid level. First I pulled the speedo cable connection. That only dumped about a few ounces. Then I had the bight idea to open to trans cooler line at the radiator. I took a 50/50 guess on the TOP line being the supply line. Wrong! Dumped about 2 quarts of fluid on the drive and all over the right side of the engine compartment. But, after I cleaned that up, the only thing to do was to add about 1.5 quarts and the level is now perfect. Didn't have to screw with dropping the pan or make another trip to the tranny guy. I changed the oil and fliter, checked everything again and took it out on the freeway for a short spin. It drove and perfromed just about right for a 30 year old truck with original engine and rebuilt tranny. Good smooth ride, brakes perfect, no problems at all. Fun.

I talked to the guy who repaired my tranny today. That's his TOTAL business for the last 30 years. Good guy. He said that he would rather have the level a bit high than a bit low or right on the mark. He said that "blowing the seals out" was probably from the 40's or 50's era cars that had leather seals. Everything from the mid 60's forward have been very good and better. He also said that there is a vent that will dump any overages and it has to be PRETTY HIGH to even get to that vent. That's what one of the guys here said to begin with. Spudz, I think it was.

So, guess it wasn't too bad after all. I would have liked it if his helper hadn't dumped it all over the engine compartment when filling it.
