Having to sell the '68 WIW, help guys, not sure

'68 swb fleetside CST

Well, after trying to buy a house earlier this year and having it pulled from beneath me by my ex-best friend I think I may have found another but will undoubtedly have to sell my two projects.

First the '68 has to go. I have bought tubular control arms upper and lower, rebuilt the front end, installed SSBC brakes and drop spindles and swapped it to five lug. It has a rebuilt 350 turbo, power booster, power brakes Rebuilt HEI, Brand new Barry Grant carb, The only thing I have not done is to have it soda blasted and primed black, can't stand the purple and yellow.

The bed is in mint shape and the rockers have previously been replace. has some rust in the cab supports and two quarter sized spots in the floor.

I have about 6,000 in it, Do you guys figure I can get that back out of it?

I think you're in the right ball park with it. We're in the same part of the country and I know that it's hard to find a rustfree swb V8 auto truck for less than 5K. If your doors and front fenders are rustfree and straight you're definitly close on it. I agree that the yellow and purple is a love it or hate it thing.

Rule #1 never, never tell what you got invested. Its nobodys business, price it higher and go down to where you need to be. The color could hurt unless the buyer likes it. Good luck and it is a sharp truck!!

I would not sell it for less then $10,000 dollars and on that note ask $12000.00 obo. The paint I agree is not going to be everybodys cup of tea, but hey you can come down a thousand bucks for the paint if it becomes an issue. How's the interior? (Don't be afraid to make a profit.)

Re: Having to sell the '68 WIW, help guys, not sure

I would agree that it is worth more than $6000 maybe not $10000.00 but you never know. That is one reason why I changed my mind on my 67 because everyone that knows the truck said I would be a dumb ass to take $11000.00 for it considering what has been done to it. I would think that truck would bring $8000 easy if it is in good shape. If the body is in good shape that is going to save someone a bunch of time and money if they don't have to start replacing body panels, fixing rust, and fixing dents. I know you said it had some a little rust but if it something someone can fix their self I don't think that is a big deal, but if it is something someone has to pay to have done that is a different story.

I'd start at $10,000.00 and drop as needed. It's awfully hard to go up once you've set a price but hey if someone offers you $9,500.00 you will still make a bit on it.If you price it at $6,000.00 that's all they will give.Even if you have to come down to $6,000.00 you haven't lost anything.

Re: Having to sell the '68 WIW, help guys, not sure

Well, I hate to sell the stupid thing but it is between selling the '68and project BlacKout which I have done so much work too. It is there, it can go straight to paint, followed by upholstery and bolt in an engine. I hate to get rid of it but If I can sell it I would be at my goal for a down payment.

The frame is finished and the entire cab has all new sheetmetal and is now rust free as can be. It now has tubular motor and trans mounts and is ready to go to paint. I think this will be the one that goes.

Re: Having to sell the '68 WIW, help guys, not sure

You know all us truck guys are going to price it high. But realistically if I was looking at that truck from an outsider standpoint, (someones thats always wanted one of those neat old trucks) I would have to factor in the costs to make it MY truck.

Tack on the cost of new paint, maybe lowering and different wheels and tires etc etc. Pretty soon its way more than I want to be into it. I think starting around the 6k mark would be ok. But no way would I pay 10 grand for it unless everything on it is exactly how I pictured my dream truck.

Well, under the front end are tubular upper and lower control arms. 1.5-inch drop
'73-87 2-inch drop spindles wich SSBC brakes and 1 -inch drop coils for a total of 5-inches. It also has a SSBC brake kit, booster and master cylinder.

I kinda like the paint, along with the new wheels..I think it is worth more than 6K for what you have in it. I'd keep it...

Re: Having to sell the '68 WIW, help guys, not sure

If some prices a ride say for $ 11,500 and a buyer starts well I gotta have new wheels, interior oh! don't like the valve covers etc. He sure wouldn't buy mine. Changes should not bring the price down much. Not sayin' a offer just because something is not liked or wanted.

It is such an unusual color combo, I'd go with the LSU tie-in and Craig's List.

On the other side, I listed a '69 C/10 back in October of '01, and sold it less than 24 hours later, using Trucks.com and no picture. Guy drove from Ft. Worth and drove it home, the day after I listed it. Put a pix on the ad and it'll sell.
