What 6 cyl radiator vs 8 cyl
I have a factory 6 cyl truck-no A/c and eventually I want to put a 350 in it. The radiator started leaking and I am trying to decide wether to just have it fixed and redone for $100 or up grade and buy a different one. Will the stock 6 cyl radiator work for a 350 or should I go ahead and upgrade?

Re: What 6 cyl radiator vs 8 cyl
I ran a stock 6 cylinder radiator in front of my 350. It did not leak and never overheated. If you are going to put in a 350 and the radiator is leaking I would save a few more bucks to put with $100 and go for a new or even remanned one. That way you most likely will have a warranty and years of leakfree service.

I went to a radiator shop and bought a new 4-row core radiator for about $120, it seems. It was cheaper than having mine re-cored.

Re: What 6 cyl radiator vs 8 cyl
I also am using my original 6 cylinder radiator for my 350. I've repaired it twice in the last 10 or so years. Mainly due to my carelessness. I dropped a wrench on it one of the times.
Cost was about $40 or so to have it cleaned, rodded and repaired each time. I personally can't see shelling out the $300 the guy quoted me for a 4 core last time I checked with him. I would wait until you actually get the 350 then see how it works with your radiator. |

Re: What 6 cyl radiator vs 8 cyl
We just ran the radiator from the 6 when we installed the 350 & didn't have any problems, until old age caught up with the radiator & the core started weeping.
I just took it to a radiator shop & had it recored so I could keep the factory tanks (Harrison?). I'm just strange that way. |
