The very best inline fuel filter: Come on, a fuel filters a fuel filter. Just go buy one from a parts store and dont worry about it. I have a clear plastic one on my truck...works fine for me.

I run a glass one on my truck and a steel one on my Jeep. More problems with the steel one than any glass I've ever had.

Re: What is the very best inline fuel filter???

Most new cars don't even have a filter. Just the screen in the tank. If you have plastic tank and lines I would just run without one. I thought about just putting the fuel tank pick up at the top rather than the bottom where the crud and water is in my old truck. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do.

Re: What is the very best inline fuel filter???

The fact that someone hasn't experienced leakage (or a fire) does not make a filter/location safe. I'd prefer not to have a filter atop my engine...

Besides the bronze Q-jet filter, I use an inline steel filter under the truck, between the transfer valve and the fuel pump. Still need to keep an eye on the short fuel hoses connecting everything, though -- hose failure could allow leakage onto the exhaust.

Re: What is the very best inline fuel filter???

I'm running the glass filter on my truck. Read about them possibly being a fire hazard, so I bought a new Russell metal housing filter (from Summit Racing). Haven't installed it, though. I like the idea of seeing into the housing and marveling at the rust and crap that it is not letting into the carb. As long as one is diligent in maintaining the glass filter, including the reassembly so it doesn't leak, I don't see a problem. NAPA would have pulled them from their stores, long ago, if there was any liabilty issue.

Re: What is the very best inline fuel filter???

I recently replaced all the old rubber lines on my truck and installed the Aeromotive canister filter from summit for around $70 bucks. since I have a 3 tank set up I installed it between the selector and fuel pump. it supposed to filter down to 10 Microns. I removed a plastic inline from under the hood. it was fun to watch it "Pulse" while the engine was running. and that was just with a stock fuel pump. It may not be the best but I am happy with it and have had no problems with it.

at the same time I run one of the $2.00 plastic inline ones on my dune buggy, as long as I change it between seasons I have never had a problem. I have seen cars that were burnt-up from running the glass ones and having them break off road.
