Need help with break lights - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just bought a 72 C-10 and the break lights do not work at all. It has had a complete frame off restoration with new wiring. The rear light is a red LED setup for the turn, break and ruining light.

Does and one have a wiring diagram for the lights?

And does anyone know where the switch for the breaks is? Is it on the master cylinder?

The switch for the break light is on the back of the brake pedal arm.

The brake light switch is on a bracket just above the brake pedal pad.
Do the turn signals work? They use the same wires as the brake lights.
Have you checked the bulbs and housings for good bulbs and good grounds
on the housings?

The signal lights work.

There is no switch on or near the break pedals, but there is a single light brown wire coming out of the master calendar near the booster

the switch should be behind the dash, above the pedals.

This is the brake warning light wire for low pedal or fluid pressure. It has nothing to do with your problem. I do not understand why the brake light switch is not where I said it should be. The LED turn lights use a different flasher because of the decreased current load they draw, but if the turn signals work then yours are correct, and they have no effect on the brake lights as far as I know.

If there is no switch under the dash that is mounted to the bracket where the brake pedal will push it in when not in use. You want have any light's. If my memory serves me correct it's white plastic and looks like a pen with 2 electrical connections in black plastic cliped to it.

You will have to look up under the dash for the piece. Should be right near the steering column and brake pedal up high.

Have fun instaling the brake light switch. I had to replace mine in a 71 chevy. If I had to choose between yard work and changing the switch guess which I would do. You have so little room for a wrench and it will take forever. One tip, after a few days of driving check the switch to make sure it is secure. The repair manual says the brake pedel switch should activate the brake lights about 3/8 to 5/8 inches. Hope this helps.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
