While ripping apart the dash..

...for the forth time this weekend, I discovered that the relay that controls the hazard lights is busted. Turn signals work just fine and at a good speed, but when I tested the hazard lights they sit there and do nothing, then rapid fire blink about 3x per second. Now what?

Anyone know how easy/hard this fix is? My hazards are on the steering column and for the most part it's in good shape. I checked the fuse and traced the wire into the steering column (when I couldn't see it anymore) and everything seemed to be ok...

Or do I just shine it because they DO actually work?

Re: While ripping apart the dash..

Swap your turn signal flasher with the hazard flasher then check the funcyionality of your hazards. If they flash normally then just replace the bad flasher.

Re: While ripping apart the dash..

Kix: Sounds like the flasher is bad like BLE said. All a flasher is, is an auto reset circut breaker set to open at an amperage just above what the lamps draw. If this "set point" drops or the draw increases the lamps will flash faster. Reverse is true if the set point goes up or you blow a bulb. Lamps will flash slower or not at all. Thats why when you hook up a trailer the signal lights & 4 ways will flash faster (greater amperage draw). I use a "signal stat" 522 in both the signal lights and 4 ways and they work well with or without a trailer. jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
