Blast Cabinet on the way!!!

Happy New Year to Everyone!!!!

With my plans to add a Powder coating service to my Spray-In Bed Liner business I realized I need a blast cabinet. Harbor Freight has their industrial blast cabinet discounted $100 bucks...so I counted my pennies and bought it! Is it the best cabinet out there??? Probably not, but it will get me started and I think will be a good start for a blast cabinet.

My 6.5' x 4' x 4' oven should be ready to cook soon!!!

Cabinet details:
Dual side doors for long objects with a large front door for bulky items. Includes brass flow valve, two nozzles, air regulator, large particle separating screen and easy access clean out door.
Sturdy welded steel construction
Rust resistant powder coat finish
Extra bright, twin tube 18 watt fluorescent light
Foot operated activation switch
25'' long reach rubber gloves
Dust reclaimer outlet (dust reclaimer sold separately)
Nozzle sizes: 6 mm and 7 mm; Abrasive capacity: 15 lbs., Door opening dimensions: 19-3/4" W x 19-1/4" H (x2 side), 46" W x 13-11/16" H (front); Working area: 47-3/4" W x 24" D x 22-1/2" H; Viewing window dimensions: 22-1/2" W x 10-1/2" H, Air requirements: 50 to 125 PSI @ 12 CFM; Air inlet: 3/8"-18 NPT, Overall dimensions: 51" W x 36" D x 65-3/4" H, Shipping weight: 297 lbs.

I have the next size down and so far it is working great. I put an exhaust fan on mine and vented it outside and it makes all the difference in the world.... Have fun...

Re: Blast Cabinet on the way!!!

What brand of spray-in bed liner material do you sell? I just dropped my bed off to have a Vortex liner sprayed in. I really trust the guy who talked me into it. Also, learned that there is a weight "penalty" involved in using Rhino, compared to Vortex. Is that a plus, or a minus? Don't know. He said that a Rhino liner will add 300-lbs to the weight of the truck. Could be a good thing. Maybe it's not a good thing. Vortex offers an opportunity to spray a contrasting color over the base color, and I'm thinking of adding a Bowtie to the front of the bed, or maybe between the wheel wells. Hey, it's just a thought. Thinking is free. For now, anyway.

Re: Blast Cabinet on the way!!!

I am not going to get into the bed liner issue. I will say that I spray GatorHyde which is much different than the brands you mentioned. If you want my opinion email or call me. I would be more than glad to explain all that I know, but don't want to get into a brand issue on this board. My email is: GatorHydeofDenver@gmail.com or you can call me at the shop 303 280-3056.

Yes they sell the reclaim dust deal for the blast cab. Gonna see how my shop vac works before I buy a new one. My build is on hold until the powder coat oven is finished so I can PC the 12 bolt rear end. 600+ hp 496 BBC is being built right now by Smith Racing of Denver.

Re: Blast Cabinet on the way!!!

Your shop vac is not gonna last very long if you are not running thru some sort of water trap or prefilter. The glass beads / silica will destroy the motor.

don't ask me how i know this ... lol

Re: Blast Cabinet on the way!!!

Then I will have to get a reclaim/anti dust kit for it. Using Aluminum oxide.
The one HF has for this blast cab is $99.99.

I think you have an admirable line of thought. Here in central Arkansas, we don't have many choices of spray-in liners. Rhino is in LR; Line-X was in Jacksonville. Vortex is not even listed in the area, but I knew the guy who was doing them at his shop where he does sand/soda blasting and powder-coating. It's what I chose; time will be the test.

Thanks for not shooting me down. Big as I am, I make target practice easy!!

Re: Blast Cabinet on the way!!!

Hey ...the choices we all make are "OUR" individual choices. I think GatorHyde is the best bedliner material on the market, period. That's "MY" opinion. There are other choices for all the others that walk this earth. I do believe Vortex is a cold applied similar to RNO, but I don't know for sure. Good luck to you. Don't want to shoot down a big guy...he just might get back up, LOL!!! I'm not all that small myself, LOL!

Re: Blast Cabinet on the way!!!

Blast cab arrived yesterday very well packed and all the pieces intact. Took about 1 1/2 hrs to unpack and put it together. I am going order the reclaim/dust collector that is designed to attach to the back. I am re arranging my shop getting it set up for the powder coating. Need to build small platform for my 30" home oven and get it off the temporary bucket lift, LOL.
