New Wind Wing Rubber

Has anyone ever put or had new wind wing rubber installed in your truck and had the wind noise go away? The guy that installed mine did not know what he was doing because it is much worse now and the rubber on the inside now makes a flapping noise as I am going down the road. Makes it hard to hear the radio. I ordered more new rubber but would like to know if anyone had good luck with the replacement???

Re: New Wind Wing Rubber

Sorry for the uneducated question, but what's a "wind wing", do you mean the windshield?

The smoker's window. The second part of glass in your door.

Re: New Wind Wing Rubber

Ah, I see. IIRC there was some trick for installing the rubber on the bottom edge, I never did fix mine but a few folks here did so I bet someone knows what I'm talking about. Also someone here or at FSC was talking about the rubber from '90-'91 Suburbans (don't quote me on the years tho) being of some upgraded design, that makes it easier to install and also eliminates wind noise...

quiker and easier to just replace the whole assembly and be done with it.

Re: New Wind Wing Rubber

But you would still need new rubber. I would still like to know if anyone put new rubber in and had it stop with wind noise? One piece glass would do the trick but expensive and I would like to keep the wind wings.

Re: New Wind Wing Rubber

Chevy still has the vent windows for the 85-87 models. I bought one for the 77 and it fit, just had to drill into the frame for my screw pattern. $185 plus tax. Very nice.

I replaced the rubber on the right vent window because the pillar had not been bent like the left side (someone broke-in in 1978). The task is something I wouldn't want to do again, that for sure. Hard to get that new rubber to seat in the channels. Plus, unless you have a rivet squeezer, it is very difficult to get the "pivot" rivet for the window on there. I had to bolt mine in and double nut it to keep the bolt on. But it is do-able, not like-able. Don't really know if it stopped any air leak compared to new, but the old rubber had completely fallen out in chunks. Big improvement.

Re: New Wind Wing Rubber

You can buy the 89-91 vents brand new from GM that have the updated rubber for around $200. They DON'T have the felt in them though.

Yes, the ones for the R/V Burb/Blazer and Trucks of those years will fit fine. 81-91 doors for our bodystyle are identical.
