How do you remove the collar from a tilt column
How do you remove the top collar from a tilt column? Will anything fall out? I will be installing a new turn signal switch.
Thanks

If you are referring to the cover piece, it presses on. Remove levers and use something soft and tap it off. I use a small piece of wood in the turn signal lever hole.

Re: How do you remove the collar from a tilt column
I used a rubber hammer and hit it lightly while turning it over and over. Eventually it comes off.

If you are talking about the piece that is labeled "cover" above, then yes it is a press fit.

Re: How do you remove the collar from a tilt column
It is a press fit. The service manual shows using a puller that catches the lip on the inside and pulls against the shaft.
I remove the tin housing by tapping it off after soaking the press fit area with penetrant since I don't have the tool that the manual shows. I have not run across one that cannot be easily tapped off. Jim
