front suspension help

I have a 72 SWB with a hole rusted in one upper control arm. I already have a rebuild kit from pst and 2" drop spindles for a 72. I also have a complete 68 front suspension, a 70 parts truck, and a disk front end that came out of a 68 parts truck.

My two questions are;

What is the same / different between the 68, 70, and 72 front ends?

Any way to identify the disk front end out of the 68?

Re: front suspension help

The main difference between your 72 upper control arms and the 68-70 upper control arms is the ball joints as the 71-72 upper ball joints are unique to those years. I have not done the ball joint swapout but the 71-72 upper ball joint should fit the older upper control arms.

As far as identifying what a PO installed into the 68 it would be anybody's guess as the whole cross member can be swapped in from newer trucks. Pictures may help but I would suggest matching up the parts with your 72 to see if they are the same.

Re: front suspension help

I know the ball joint tapers differ.

I think the control arm bushings change.

Does anyone know what changes are made on what years say from 67 - 87?
