Temperature Gauge
here's a weird one, I just recently unbolted my headers to replace the gaskets and after I got it all back together and started it up the temp gauge wont move. I'm guessing I bumped a wire or something but my question is where does the signal come from that tells the gauge how hot or cold to read so I know where to start looking?

i think they put in various places depending on the year and engine. my coolant sensor is on the drivers side. right above the exhaust manifold i think.

72 Small block - drivers side cylinder head between #1 & #3 spark plugs. Green wire. Oh wait a minute, mine has a idiot light.

I had the same problem on the white truck. I broke the tube where it goes into the sender. You will have to find another temp gauge. LockDoc

First, do you have a factory temp gauge or after-market? My '72 has a factory temp gauge, the sending unit is on the passenger side head in between the #5 and #7 header tubes. Of course your could be mounted somewhere else. If you have an after market gauge, is it mechanical or electric? If mechanical look for the coil wound lead going to the engine, could be on driver or passenger side. If it is electric you have probably knocked the connector off of the sending unit, again could be on driver or passenger side. Let us know what you find out.

Man my mom needed a place to stay for a while so I needed to get away. But yeah, I looked and saw that the wire going to the gauge had come off the connector, hooked it back up and it works like a champ again, thanks everyone.
