found my dad a project...how rare is it?

hey guys, im new over here on the 73-87 board so i just want to say hello! i found my dad a truck here in my town and was curious as to how many were made. its a 1980 chevy short fleet cheyenne 2wd. it has been lowered a bit and all the trim has been removed and painted black. being a cheyenne its too bad it was dicked with but still its a great truck. it has a 350/th350 combo, with ac, tilt, NO buckets unfortuantely, posi rear, power windows and locks, ummm other then that im not sure, we are 67-72 guru's so we have lots to learn about the newer trucks. does anyone know how many cheyennes GM made in '80? also dont shoot me but ill get pics posted asap.

thanks, Derek

Yeah that's not really anything special, but it sounds like a sweet truck!

Re: found my dad a project...how rare is it?

I think in the 67-27's a Cheyenne is a highly optioned truck. But in the 73-87's (it might have started a little later like 75-76 though) it's closer to a base model.
Not %100 sure about this but am pretty sure.

Re: found my dad a project...how rare is it?

Well I disagree with everyone else, it is very very rare, rare in the sense that the son bought the truck for his dad as a project!!!!!!!
We need more sons like that, good for you 67cst

That's what I had thought too... Cheyenne, Scottsdale, then Silverado.

Right?

Re: found my dad a project...how rare is it?

That's a good question,... When did the "Cheyenne" go from being the "top of the line" truck,... to almost a base model? Maybe Bigblock73 will reply.

Re: found my dad a project...how rare is it?

cheyenne with power windows ,locks and tilt -- thats loaded for a Cheyenne from that era -- posi is a nice bonus.

The Cheyenne's from this era are not like the Cheyenne's in 67-72, because the Silverado became top dog in the 70's, but it still sounds like a very good truck

Re: found my dad a project...how rare is it?

I got him one so he would stay away from mine! So it was mostly for selfish reasons. That and I have most of the parts to put it back together.
