Re: Restore..or not?
So what you're saying is, "Leave it alone." That is what I am going to do. It is going to remain as is with the exception of adding the wheel well trim and a few odds and ends that do not require the drilling of any holes.
I've had to replace the valve guide seals due to it sitting most of its life, along with making sure the bearings were good and greased. I drive it about 2k miles a year so that should keep things lubed up engine topside wise. I live where rust is not an issue and of course the truck sits inside most of the time. I appreciate the input. I have seem some great mods on this site so I know you are all not afraid of them. That actually gives more weight to the advice of leaving it alone. Engine pic is when I was replacing the guide seals.

Re: Restore..or not?
The wheel well trim would be a nice touch.
I agree with everyone else, just leave it for the most part how it looks. Back when it was new, of course it doesn't stand out, but you just don't see many all original trucks anymore, and when you see one that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor or is slightly modded with period correct items, it really stands out. |

Re: Restore..or not?
I personally wouldn't see a problem with adding options to the truck that weren't originaly purchased on it.
Like if it didn't have a slider rear window and you found a real nice OEM part. Or like you said about the wheel well trim. Or like was said before about the chrome mirrors. Don't need the newer style "dumbo" mirrors, but if you could find mirrors just like the ones you have only chrome? Or chrome bumpers; can't tell if your rear bumper is chrome or not? Or maybe a rear sport bumper?

Re: Restore..or not?
In addition to the wheel well molding I want to add the lower body molding which matches the upper factory installed stuff. Trouble is finding those pieces. Some I can still get from GM, others not.
The bumper is chrome but must have been added by original owner as its not listed on the build sheet and the factory under bed license plate holder and light is still there (and functioning). The original owner did order the truck and his name is listed on build sheet. I would add chrome mirrors if they were the same style. That way I would not have to patch the existing holes nor drill new ones for different style mirrors.

Re: Restore..or not?
It's your truck, you do what you want to do with it............but I agree with everyone else, don't blow it to pieces when there is no reason to........I would change the mirros to chrome, dress the engine compartment...not too much though, some people go way overboard, especially with wire covering....and a nice set of Welds (keep the ralleys on the side). There are all kinds of small things that you can do to change appearence, but the most important thing I think that there is to appearence is "clean" and from the looks of your pics, that is what you have...............
