Fusible Link & Fuse Question

I'm sorting out my new truck. Next on the list is to square away a few wires. The fusible link from the positive battery cable to the junction block on the fender is missing. There is also a missing fuse from the in-line holder in the black wire (see attached link) that runs from the same junction block into the bundle along the front of the radiator. I'm not yet sure of its function. My question is, 1) what size is the fusible link from the battery to the junction block and 2) the size & type is the missing fuse in the black wire?

The missing fuse sounds like the short 4amp fuse that is part of the ammeter circuit. If it is there is another one on the driver's side beside the radiator.

I am not sure about the size of the fuseabel link, but I am sure some one else will know.

That sounds right. The space inside the fuse holder is short.

I'll go outside and look at the fusible link wire I bought (can't remember the size) - local part store, came in a small roll, cut TWO lengths like the originals (there were two) - soldered 'em in.

good question about that fuse/ and fuse link. Both were burned out in my truck, and I did manage to drive it like that for about 5 years... I still don't know what it coulda done!

I scratched my head for a about 4 hours when mine blew out and I had zero power (had to tow it home from the track). No ignition, no radio, nothing. I replaced mine with 12 AWG (maybe 10) from the parts store. And as for that black fuse holder... Mine didnt have one.

The two 4 amp fuses only affect the operation of the ammeter.

The ones on my 72 GMC were blown when I got it and I never replaced them during the 15 years I owned it, since I like a volt-meter better.

I checked the fuse on the opposite side (thanks for the tip) and found it was an AGA 10 amp, so that's what I purchased and placed in the empty side. Perhaps the po was popping the 4 amp fuses? Tomorrow, I'll see if my ammeter acts any different.

Without the fuse, the truck seemed to run just fine. I'm straightening out the wiring because at idle the ammeter shows discharge and the headlights dim. It may prove to be the voltage regulator and/or alternator, but I wanted to rule out the black wire since it ties in at the same junction as where the voltage regulator takes its reading (I think).

If anyone know, I'd still like to know what size the fusibible link is suppose to be off the bat (+).

definition of a fusible link... is a short length of solid wire that is 4 gauges smaller than the wire size to protect...to protect a 12 gauge wire, insert a short length of 16 gauge.....
