Ignition Switch Problems (Please help)

I have a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban. The dime lights went out on it, still had bright lights. Went to parts store to get new dimmer switch, pretty high priced part. So I went junk yard and bought a column out of a wreck. In stalled the column and everything works great. I now want to trade lock cylinders to get my original key back to match the doors. How and where do I release the lock tumblers to remove it. I have the steering wheel off, the air bag wiring out of the way, and I can see the ingnition switch. The bottom cover is off also, but the top cover is not. It will not come off till the tumbler assembly is off. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Re: Ignition Switch Problems (Please help)

I did a search and can’t find any photos of the (newer) style of column that I think is in your truck.

Going from memory – there is a hole going down from the top where the cylinder mounts. You must have the key in the on position and depress a release that is down the hole. I suggest unbolting the column mount from the bottom of the dash, to make room, so you can move the upper cover enough to get to the hole.
