alt help
so when i am sitting at a red light with my heat on and lights and stario going my volt meter drops big time down from 14 volt to just above 9 turn it all off and it jumps right back up so i put a new alt in and it stayed down to 9 volt but every thing worked. was driveing it and it died. i found a broken wire comeing off the back of the alt fixed it got a boost and now it will only go up to half way between 14 and 9 and its slowing droping.
could it be a bad battery? i had the old alt tested and it tested good might have been because of the broken wire? need help as its my dd truck is a 98 chevy 1500 ext 5.7 vortec with ac |

Re: alt help
Sounds like it might be.
The way I normally test my battery (underload) is measure the woltage across the posts with a multimeter. Then have my wife/daughter crank it. If the voltage drops to 9 or lower, then the battery is NG.
