67-72 body on an 86 frame? Do-able???

I found an 86 pick up with a 350 and an auto tranny, I want this for my 2wd but i was wodering how much work it would be to put my 70 body parts on this chasis. Anybody do this? if anybody knows someone on the board who has, i would be interested in some info. thanks

From my understand (never done the swap, just have read past posts on it) it isn't an easy thing to do. The frames are different, the body mounts aren't in the same location, and from the general census on here is that it isn't worth it. Now I am unsure why you want to (the 70 frame is beyond repair, or whatever the reason), but if your 70 frame is in good shape, the front suspension is interchangeable, so you can have front disks.

Some one with actual knowledge that has done this will chime in. I only know what I have read.

Good luck

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I was just curious. I want to keep the original frame as I really want an original truck. I will definately try to get that 350 and the tranny though. I think it will definately be an improvement from the original inline 6. hahaha

it's not really doable on a 2 wheel drive. The 86 frame is anything but flat. You'd end up making a body lift for the cab to make it line up with the bed, and it would end up looking retarded. This would be after relocating the rear axle and shortening the frame a tad.
Ona a 4X4, it's an option, but not really on a 2 wheel drive.

anything is doable with enough time and money, but this one would be tough, i had a 79 frame and a 72 body, once i started measuring and lining things up, i figured out that it was not worth it
