New To This, Just wanted to introduce myself

Hello everyone.I'm new to this site and i just figured i would say hey to everyone and i like all the stuff i've seen and read.

About two weeks ago i bought a 1986 Chevy C10 short bed for $800. It has a 350 in it,which the guy says is "cammed out" but i dont know any of the specs or anything.350 Turbo trans.Less then 1k on the rebuilt 350.The guy i bought it from claims he ran a 13.8 in the 1/4 mile with it,i wont know until it gets warmer out and i can take it to the track.

I like it,i wanted a project, and that's what i got! I'm only 17,so between school and work,it's hard to find time to get started on it,besides i dont even know where to start! Heres a few pics.Opinions are greatly appreciated!

for 800 bucks you got a steal. wish any of my trucks had a start like that. as for as the filled taillights they look killer on these trucks as long as they were done correctly. im not to high on the tailights currently on there. other then that im all for what previous owner started. have fun and welcome to the board.

That grille is HIGHLY ILLEGAL in the state Of NEW JERSEY sir I strongly suggest you remove it and ship it as far away from you as possible...........Say Alaska. Anchorage to be exact.

Oh and welcome to our addiction, it's now yours as well.

Haha Yea laws suck here in Jersey, but there are some things that you can get away with,i'm not sure if i want to give that grille a chance or not yet.

As far as future plans go:lower it most likely 3/5 (i dont want to slam it),re-do the interior, not sure on paint yet,i'm a fan of the flat colors, rims, and hopefully some more performance mods.

The first step i need to accomplish though:Money haha

If anyone has any ideas, pictures, info. to help with the build that would be great!

Welcone to the board! Thats a sweet truck to start with for a project!

I'm only 16 and money as you said, money is hard to come by at our age, but I guess we make do and get it done sooner or later. IMO, every penny spent properly on a truck is worth it. It'll take a while to get it how you want it but worth it in the end. Again, welcome and have fun.

Re: New To This, Just wanted to introduce myself

Welcome, nice truck, you should give it to me. Fat chance I know.

Looks like a great place to start, not much rust and everything is there and not bashed in. Leave the engine alone if it runs well, no need to spend money there provided it isnt smoking or knocking.

If you want it all one color you have some inexpensive options. First you have what I call "House of Krylon" paint jobs. About 8 rattle cans will cover it and 16 will make it last a while and look ok from about 50 feet while doing 50 mph. It will look good in pics too.

You can also paint it with a roller using rustoleum, a Canadian guy did it and a ton of other people have since then. HotRod magazine even did an article on it a while back. Here is a link to one of the guys who did it.
http://www.rickwrench.com/index79mas...llarpaint.html

Lastly you can do what I did with my 76 in my avatar. Sand it down, shoot primer, and paint it with inexpensive single stage enamel. I used implement or tractor enamel. A gallon runs about $100-$140, and epoxy primer is about $100 per gallon, but it goes a long way. It doesnt have to be super straight, just one color and protected from rust. I did mine simply for practice and learning how to use a new HVLP gun, since I broke the old one in my last move.

These are both rattle can paint jobs on the same car. I changed color on it every few months and tried different things. It starts to fade and weather off after a while, but the yellow seems to stay really well.

This link will take you to pics of my 76 and the cheap paintjob I did on it. It isnt a show truck its a parts chaser. Mine doesnt need to be nice, just functional and presentable. Same thing for when you are in high school, nothing fancy, just cheap and dependable, if it looks nice that is a bonus. Know what I mean? Nice costs money, and ya just dont have much of it.
