looking to buy... need opinions!

right now im looking at a 69 c10 stepside short bed.
it looks all original with maybe a weak attempt at a paint job.
it has the inline 6 with a 3 on the tree. body looks solid as does the frame. the wood in the bed is not rotten. od reads 28930 but im sure its 128930. i was curious to know if the 6500 for this truck is a fair price.

also i was wondering what other things i should know. any little tid bits would be awesome.
how common are these and maybe some production numbers would be nice. Let the information fly!!

Re: looking to buy... need opinions!

that's too much money for what you describe, even if it is rust free... and I'd be suspicious if it's been repainted, you'll want to check all the usual areas for rust... I'd say you could do better, but I'm in socal where there are a fair amount of truly rust free trucks to be had.

Pics would be nice.

sounds like a bare bones stepper. I agree with everyone else, $6500 is high even without pics....

Re: looking to buy... need opinions!

It also depends on what you want to do with it.....if you are planning on building the truck into what you want, $6500 is WAY too much to start at IMO.....if you are screwy like me, and like the I6 and 3spd. and you just want a nice DD....I say drive it, and then let it sit for a couple of weeks, come back and offer $4,000 and work from there......if it truly is a rust free truck and in good shape. 71 was the first year of disc. brakes in the front....but 69 is the fist year the parts start becoming a bit more interchangable with the rest of the trucks chevy made (but I wouldn't let that stop you from buying a nice 67 if you come across one)

Re: looking to buy... need opinions!

to be honost with you guys, this truck would be for a DD, utility, all around truck. I kind of like the 3spd. the 6 is ok for what I want to do with it (for now). but i would probably end up changing a few things down the line. My girlfriend really likes it and wants it for her car to drive to shows and stuff.

Re: looking to buy... need opinions!

For 6500 I would expect a good "driver" restoration.

That is a bit high for what you are looking at...

Just wait - and keep looking...something will come along

This time last year I was looking for a Blazer - well I found several that were priced higher than what they were worth (and in worse condition) than the one I found in the Pacific NW and had shipped to me in Ohio.

Just a thought - if you are looking for solid metal - look out West...they are cheaper and in better condition since there are more of them still on the road -

Re: looking to buy... need opinions!

Here's my opinion. If it's what you want, go for it. Once you buy it, you'll have plenty of time to figure out if you got a good deal on it or not. Plenty of time to think about how much you spent for it. And every time you see another one just like it or better in the Easy Ad for $3000 less, you'll kick yourself. Trust me, I know, and hundreds of other guys on this site know. But hey, quite frankly, it's easy to talk yourself into it. I did, and ended up costing myself a couple thousand, most likely. In my case, though, I plan to die with this truck, and I really like it, so the cost was not as much of a factor for me. Just something to think about.

Re: looking to buy... need opinions!

i tend to agree with you guys. 6500 does seem a tad high. im still looking around to see if theres anything better. im really trying to not buy anything to far i cant really see spending alot for shipping at this time period but... if the right deal comes along then i can handle it

Paid $4,000 for my 69 then put $40,000 into it so I'm probably not a good person to ask

Re: looking to buy... need opinions!

In the end it's your decision. But, I bought my 69 stepside for 800 and drove it home. Your description sounds alot like it.
