big old tires

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever heard of/seen tires that measure 35" tall, 14" wide with a 17.5" rim. I have a set on my 69 GMC and I've owned 2 sets cuz some guy just came up to me and offered to sell me a set of the exact same thing for $50. They are a kinda odd size, I've never heard of a 17.5" rim.

Re: big old tires

My '67 C-30 came with 1 piece 17.5" Budd wheels. The last pic is a comparison with the 16's that are on it now.

Re: big old tires

They are Goodyear "custom xtra grip hi-miler." They are really aggressive and great for mud, but they are very odd. When I bought the truck it had a set just like this on it, same rims and everything. Could it have been like an after market special rim/tire combo?

Re: big old tires

Never saw the tire, but my 67 came with 17" splits. Tires were 7.5 - 17. Asked the guys on the site a few months ago and was told up to 19" wheels were offered.

Re: big old tires

Back in the 70's and 80's you could buy those thru either Goodyear tire stores or here in SoCal thru Dick Cepek Tires. The wheels were made by Jackman Wheels in El Cajon, CA.
