Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
I have a friend putting a Big Block with a TH400 into a '68 Shortbox (longbox frame cut to Shortbox) The truck was originally a V-8/SM465 truck (2wd)...
He noticed in a carpet ad for our trucks that a BB with TH400 takes different carpet... Questions.... Is the cab different, and how...? Will a BB with TH400 fit without modifications (other than crossmember & motor mount towers)... I believe his cab is a high hump 2wd (I could be wrong, might be a low hump 2wd, but its NOT an original BB/TH400 cab)

Re: Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
the floor is actually raise up around the transmission tunnel on the big block trucks, and on 4x4's for that matter.
there called high hump, and low hump. you'll need to cut out the floor, and find a high hump to put in there. |

Re: Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
oh, is it different than an original SM465 high hump.... I'm familiar with the low hump / high hump cabs.... but is an original BB/TH400 cab a THIRD type hump....
What makes a BB/TH400 carpet different than a anything else high hump cab? My '67 CST factory 283/SM465 has a high hump cab (floor) in it.... furthermore... Will he need to modify the cab/floor to install a BB/TH400 into a non factory BB/TH400 truck.... Say he has a high hump small block 4 speed cab... will he need to changeanything besides motor mount towers annd trans crossmember....?

Re: Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
The truck if equiped with 465 has the SAME hump as the Big block just buy high hump carpet and you will be good to go. As long as your friend has the correct mounts and cross member, he just needs to remove the four speed c member bolt in the auto member and get the correct drive shaft. The intermediate cable for the emergncy brake may not work with new set up- big block use different cable, new fan shroud and 400 auto linkage- th350 will work but new holes will have to be drilled.

Re: Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
You can put the 400 in a low hump truck but may have to get a different trans mount and lower the cross member. I put the turbo 400 and a 208 transfer case in my 69 4x4 with a CST two wheel drive cab low hump.

Re: Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
4 speed trucks have the same high hump as big block trucks, only, there's a hole in the top.

Re: Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
just to note, I put a 402/th400 in a 72 350 auto truck(low hump) and it fits with no modifications needed other than the big block stuff. If anyone is doing this, they might try to put new bushing under the cab which will probably raise it up enough to clear a th400. however, since his is a 4 speed truck, all he needs to do is buy a big block transmission hump and the correct big block/th400 pieces and he's good to go with no problems. hope this helps.

Re: Big Block, TH400, CAB...... Question?
if you put carper in it, know one will ever be able to tell by looking. it's not a bad idea to buy the big block motor mounts, etc though as it will make the engine sit in the factory bb location. i'm not sure if the transmission crossmember is different or not, but you prolly want to check into that also. good luck with the swap and have fun with the rat motor!
