Camaro Style!!! Tailgate Modifications...?

This is an idea I have been playing with and thought about installing on my truck. It looks like it could be down by shaving the tailights, installing a rollpan, smoothing the tailgate, installing a modified camaro back bumper above the rollpan and installing the new taillights from a '67/69 camaro. The picture is not to scale I just did a quick paint program to see what it might look like.

My was dropped by a previous owner with hangers/shackles and they also cut out one of the leafs in my leaf springs so I can't all too much as it is but....

I'm looking for different... Something I have never seen before...

Well what do you think? or

Re: Camaro Style!!! Tailgate Modifications...?

I like where your head is at. I dont too much care for the look you have with the pic on your truck, but with the right color combo/ design, it could look really killer. have you thought about loosing the camaro bumper and maybe frenching in the 67 tail lights to the roll pan? Or maybe something like some 70 1/2 tail lights just above the roll pan? kudo's on the thought of something new. maybe even leaving the chev relm and going something caddy or pontiac? Anything gm that might look good. please just dont go ford mustang lights haha. i've got a buddy with a 68 step side with frenched in 66 mustang tail lights. it looks ok, but he bought the truck like that.

perhaps some 66 chevelle tail lights?

I feel really bad now. Haha! I showed my boss my idea and he said,

"DONT DO THAT!!! THAT'S UGLY! THAT'S JUST SLAPPING THAT TRUCK IN THE FACE!"

All negative feed back is welcome

Honestly, I personally think it looks like crap. The sentence "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should" comes to mind.

But, to each their own.

Good point! Everyone was doing caddy lights. I was just shooting for different. However different isn't always good... I bet it would get a lot of laughs though...

Re: Camaro Style!!! Tailgate Modifications...?

I love Camaros and I love trucks, but sometimes they don't mix........

In my opinion, with a 73-87 style, you have to keep the lights close to the edges of the bed. I think Chevy nailed the stock location when they designed it, and it's hard to change their location and still make it look realistic.

I DO like the fact that you're using factory parts, though. I'll bet that there's some factory stuff out there that'll look better than the 67-68 Camaro lights. Take a stroll through the wrecking yard, you'll get some good ideas there. Plus, nothing clears my mind like a "recon" trip to the junkyard. Might even go today......................................

Re: Camaro Style!!! Tailgate Modifications...?

i kinda like it but i also like the look when they put the corvette tail lights in the roll pan too
when you look at the tail of the truck fast with your mods it almost looks like a sport bumper.. if you arent planning on making the truck a glossy color (bright) i kinda think the camaro bumper gets a little lost with that flat black color
There was a guy here who grafted the tail fins and nose of a 73-75 cadillac onto the truck ( 74-75) and that looked kinda wierd and ugly in its own way. I havent been to the car show i seen that in for years so i dont know if its still around or not

I guess if you got the time money and skill you can do anything but that doesnt mean you should . your mod is kinda cool i dont know id do it to my own truck

Re: Camaro Style!!! Tailgate Modifications...?

Since you asked for opinions ..... I like the factory look the best using a Sport rear bumper . As far as the modified versions go , I have never liked the look of shaved tail lights with the lights in the rollpan . The back of the truck is too tall and flat to have the lights way down low . The look you are after is different and , in my opinion , better than the lights in the rollpan . With color and the right install , it might look good . You really never know how it is going to look until it is a done deal . You did mention it would probably get a lot of laughs . I dont think that is the reaction most of us want for one of our trucks . To wrap up my rambling , If you are going to mod the rear , do the Camaro thing and not the lights in the rollpan thing . Re: Camaro Style!!! Tailgate Modifications...?

Honestly I don't think it works and the Camaro lights would be sticking through the back side of the tailgate. The 73-87 trucks back look great just the way the factory made them. Spend your time and money some place else. Remember resale is always an issue as well. Good Luck.

Ok, lets say you pull it off, and the rear don't look too bad. Then what? Please don't use the same treatment on the front.

I'll have to say "no" on this one.

Haha! That was my favorite response!

If I was going to do an all out custom show truck I would probably go with my design. I'm tired of stuff that has been done over and over! If you noticed 98% of the interiors on these old trucks are exactly the same. Billet dash bezel with billet trim. In fact I just bought mine a month ago. Same with the exterior. I just dont like store bought bolt on stuff. Everyone's got it!

A custom dash (from a bel air or '66 chevy truck etc.) looks killer and one of a kind!

Shaved door handles and lights.... Seen it....

Bagged and dropped with 20's seen it....

Loud mufflers and bolt on parts... done it...

All of these look great and work really well but.....

I want something different that I built! Something someone can't just walk in and buy or order online. Ya know?

I'll keep ya posted haha!

Thanks for all the replies! Keep 'em coming!
