Rear U-Bolt Question - Coil Suspension 1/2 Ton

backstory. I am having some 2" drop blocks flamecut for my rear suspension. of course, I will need to get some longer u-bolts. So......

I measured the axle u-bolt on the truck, so could someone verify my numbers? these are my measurements.

- from the inside of the arc to the bottom of the threads is 8"
- from center of rod to center of rod is 4.25"
- the rod itself is 11/16" round
- the two nuts are 1" fine thread

thanks all......

Funny, I was just thinking of doing the same thing.
I have lowered springs but want another half inch or so more (and it's not quite level). Went out this morning and looked at the U bolts to see if I had enough thread to put a spacer in there.
I think I can. If you find some longer bolts let us know.

Actually Mondo, someone posted that there was a spring and suspension shop here locally. However, try a google search on "u-bolt suspension" and California. If I have a place that makes there here in Kansas, they I KNOW you'll have somewhere in Cali.

Looks like on mine that you could go 1/2" to 3/4" with a longer u-bolt, but aftet that you will need one that's longer.

I'm just wanting to verify my measurements because I would hate to order 2 incorrect u-bolts. Guess I could always take up horseshoes???!!!

If your round stock is 11/16' then it would be impossible for you to have 1" NFT hex nuts. You must be talking about the size wrench that fits the hex nuts. I think what you have is 3/4-16. 3/4=diameter 16=thread pitch. CPP has the extened rear U-bolts for 29.00 a pair. Here is the link. Good Luck Here is a pic of mine.

Tri,

Yep, I meant the wrench size is 1". The round stock is 11/16", so your right, it would be a 3/4" UNF. have to wait 'til I get to work tomorrow and verify in my Bible, the Engineer's Handbook.

I'd go with CPP if I didn't have a spring place here locally that can make a pair fairly cheap.

There is a shop In Santa Maria Ca. Central Coast Spring, there number is 805 347- 7335, they will make any length u-bolt you need, I dont know if they ship but if not I can pick up and ship, I have used them a few times to do different trucks I have worked on.
