Re: Is this truck anything special???

I'd chop it down to a short wheelbase! You would never find a swb that cheap with all those options. Even after sourcing a bed you'll still have less in it than you could have bought a factory shortie for.

Re: Is this truck anything special???

Properly restored it would get major points from any truck crowd. Heck, it gets good points just here. It is neat to seem most of the options still intact, especially the smog pump. Is it a CA truck or from another state?

Re: Is this truck anything special???

That would be a pretty solid start as a complete truck. Clean it up a bit and get a good tune-up and you could probably double your money. Folks in the midwest and back east would pay even more, but transport is the problem.

I say part the old bucket of junk. To me. I'll take it in one part. I'm close by too so you'll save on shipping.

Re: Is this truck anything special???

I don't think it's a CA truck, as it has the rust at the bottom of the rockers. To us guys out here, that's a bad thing that only happens on the other side of the mountain...

I drove it around today and it runs great, actually. Someone was asking about the motor and tranny, and those are top notch. No smoke, no leaks, tons of torquey power, etc... That's my biggest problem is I was going to save the motor and tranny for a shortbed that I don't own yet. The other thing is I'd like to know if these are the correct hubcaps. I heard the highlander has special ones.

And I have to ask, how do you "turn" it into a shortbed? Who can do that around here specifically? And what do you guys think this is worth on evil bay. I haven't gone there yet, and really don't want to, but the old lady is pressuring me to pay the bills. Imagine that...

Here's some more pics

Re: Is this truck anything special???

Damn nice truck. I am always looking for a restro candidate well optioned long bed.

The cab is almost identical to the latest one I have on my truck. Same pale yellow(or what ever color) camper special, and all.

Nice truck.

Re: Is this truck anything special???

I think it would fetch a good amount on Ebay and maybe even on the board. It's like you said though. Most Californians don't want that little bit of rust and that would mean shipping would probably be a factor. If you paid $1000 for it, I think you could sell it reasonable and make a very good profit. JMO.

If you do part it I want the smog parts. If you keep it I would love to receive detailed photos of the smog system (hose routing, etc.)

Thanks

isn't a camper special a ford?
This isn't a custom camper either.
I see quite a few parts I want off of it to be honest.
And a LWB never gets much money... no matter how it's optioned...which this one has a few really desirable options, but not a whole lot.

Maybe I just want these parts bad.... but I'm ready with the checkbook out.

Re: Is this truck anything special???

since 67-72 Chevy/GMC are my favorite I will have to agree but 80-87 trucks are next in line.

BTW there are quite a few board members here using the name "camper special" on their personal rides..........just playin with you longhornman

Re: Is this truck anything special???

big block, AC cab, tilt wheel, Highlander package. Doesn't have any substantial rust -- thats a relatively high dollar truck (if restored) even as a longbed, or -- since it has no sentimental value to you chop the frame and put a shortbed on it -- it looks like a perfect candidate for that too (if it was a Cheyenne Super , i'd suggest leaving it be, but since its not - chop away) --- there are lots of good thereads on here on doing the conversion

Re: Is this truck anything special???

If you were'nt on the other side of the country, I would say don't part it....Trade it! To ME! A yellow and white truck very similar to that one except in show condition is what got me interested in these trucks. I will probably never paint my blue one yellow and white but I do intend to make it blue and white. One day I would like to have a yellow and white one though. Great score! BTW, I think the hub caps are for a '73 or later.

Talking Re: Is this truck anything special???

It is a Highlander with a lot of options. There were not that many made and it would break many a heart if you decide to part it out. Restore it!!!!
