Question How many wires go to the STARTER?

OK I have a 1996 GMC c-1500 5.7 lt vortec I have replaced the engine and now the starter stays engaged when you connect the battery to the starter?
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this year?
I need all the help I can........Thanks in advance

Re: How many wires go to the STARTER?

There should be the battery cable another wire with a large terminal that hooks on with it and then the activation wire (small terminal) The problem I believe you are having is the solenoid has welded itself inside to the large post the battery cable hooks to. Take the starter back off, remove the cap from the solenoid While the cap is off turn the large stud 1/2 turn turn the washer over that was welded when you opened it up. Put it back together and reinstall. If that starter has warranty return it.

Yes, or the battery supply to the starter is touching the other small post where the purple wire goes ( sometimes happens when the terminal is clocked wrong )

If it has the right battery cable on the truck, it can't be clocked wrong.

Smile Re: How many wires go to the STARTER?

Thanks for all the help but I found the problem the main power wire has a small tip on it and it was touching the outher wire causing the starter to engage all the time. Took it off and turned it around and now it works fine....
Its always something simple.....
Thanks again for the help....
