I have a bunch of 3 and 4 speed saginaws and want to sort them out . Also i need to now what plastic speed o drive gears[in the tail shaft] to use with a 411 or 340 rear gears to make the speedo read right? Last edited by chopper tom; 01-26-2008 at 01:01 AM. |

Re: standard questions?
What kind of trannys are you referring to? truck or car? Rings???
You also need to state tire size to get a response on the gearing question.

If you want a factory trans for putting behind a strong SBC, get a Muncie (they are OLD) or a BW T10.

Re: standard questions?
A883OD is a possible option, they were put in some of the mid 80s trucks, and are also found behind Hemi 440 engines in Dodge cars.
Personally I am going with an NV4500

Quote:
These are not know for their strength. The aluminum cases are weak and known to explode under high loads. Unlike a normal 4 speed that has a 1:1 ratio, and the input and output are locked together, the OD trans uses the counter shaft as the final drive so everything has power applied to it. Power comes in on the input transfers to the countershaft and returns to the output.

Re: standard questions?
Ah, cool! I just searched for A883 and thats what I found. My buddy has one in his 1/2 ton 4x4, and its held up to a ton of abuse from him, so it seemed to make sense to me
