Open to suggestions: Spicin it up

Man, i have been trying to trade this beast for something else, but it being my first car, ( 5 years ago at 17) and the fact noone will trade anything for a long bed, or a 3/4 ton, i have decieded to keep it!

I dont really want to slam it, or raise it sky high. The wheels and tires are brand new, so i would like to keep those too.
Maybe a sign on the door saying "Harrison's Hot Rods" with a skull and corssed pistons/rods in the middle. Maybe take off all that trim, maybe make it 2-tone black and white. Any suggestions, or pictures, or photoshops?
Im just bored, and would like to spice it up a little.

its currently a 355/400 combo, but i would like to swap a 5 speed manual, if anyone has a link that would be great!

Thanks in advance guys

I wouldn't touch it.That truck is clean straight and just looks right.I normally don't like the stock look so well but that one looks like Grampa drove it to the pool hall on sunday while granny was at church. Then parked it in the garage the rest of the time.

You know what man, thats kinda what it is. Its got 120k miles, very little rust, and a straight body. Thats why ive been so reluctant, but it just dosnt it for me anymore.

Hey... This is Scoti from MR. I remember reading you were trying to move your truck a while back. What are you looking for in a trade? Maybe someone has or knows of something you might be interested in?

I would go that route before taking a nice truck like that & stripping the trim off & two-toning it.

If I were you, I'd stay away from the skull and crossed pistons pic on the side. That's a lot like the patch for the Outlaws mc. and I'd hate to hear that they took it from you. Good luck whatever you decide.

Thats a very clean truck to start changing up much. I am a lowered truck fan but I would only suggest maybe a spacer or slight taller coil in frt to lift it to level......just my opinion.

I actually went out and got a '97 swb ext. cab. for $3900 It now has 194,000 miles and is going strong! I love my older cars, but its nice to hop into something, start it right up, with a/c , and not worry about denting it, and park it anywhere, i can also haul ****, the '69 bed is so nice, i hate puttin stuff back there that can beat it up. good example I went to pickup a 283 for $200 (got it runnin that night) it came with an extra set of heads and they wernt strapped down. Needless to say i slammed on my brakes and the heads went plowing forwards, and dented the **** outa the bed, but hell i dont care its a truck. In the '69 i woulda flipped.

Where can i see pics of your '74?
no 5 speed manual or 700r4 links?
Thanks for the compliments

I don't have much in the way of pics on the 74. It's nothing special w/just the right amount of 'appeal'.

As for trannys...... I've used Phoenix Transmissions (Ft. Worth) for one GM OD tranny & there was another place over in Dallas that built the one going into my beater. The Phoenix Trans unit is a proven performer & was very well priced vs. other choices; the 2nd OD tranny hasn't been used by me yet so I don't know what to expect ( I aquired it in a parts swap).

Is your truck coil or leaf?

i wouldnt change a good looking truck sounds like your ideas would severly limit potential buyers and deeply lower the value of what you have now

Exactly my thoughts. You might end up spending 2K to fix it up as described only to lower the value 2K from where it currently sits.

A GearVendors OD would be the best choice if that T400 is good to go. That would make a very stout combo.

Hhmmm......

Throw fuel injection and AC on your pickup and you will enjoy driving it again.
If you do a TBI swap it could be taken off when it comes time to sell and it wouldn't hurt the value.

You even have a great drivetrain in the 97 that would work well.

my 2cents

I love the way your truck looks right now.

Re: Open to suggestions: Spicin it up

very nice truck ! I can see where your comming from to spice it up.I know you just bought tires but it kinda looks old man-ish either go low profile or go for 4x4 raised look and a 2 tone would help.We get these trucks because we like them for the most part not resale value , as long as you don't chop it up and you do quality work make it what you like to be seen in.

also, a gear vendors unit is about $2400,

You say this is your first car?(or truck as the case may be), don't even think about selling it, everyone (at least that I know) always have fond(for the most part) memories of their first ride.I wish I still had my first car, and that thing was a total beater -71 Datsun 510- but I have a lot of good memories about that car,and it was nowhere near as nice as your truck, which by the way I think you should keep as is, appearance wise anyways

Re: Open to suggestions: Spicin it up

To spice it up a little on the outside you may want to get your windows tinted. Its great to keep out the sun and can add a little additude to your trucks looks. For me, spicing something up as nice as your truck would be getting comfortable seats and a nice sound system.
