cab sealer question

What do you use to seal up between the drip rail and the cab. Looks like silicone or body filler? Mines crackin and starting leak a little, would like to scrap it out and re do it. thanks

3m 8307 I believe. its a self-leveling automix that any jobber will have

I'm doing mine right now, and I'm gonna use this stuff - it's not self-leveling, but it sticks a little better for the vertical stuff. BTW, did you get a good method of cleaning all the old caulk out of the drip rail? It is a real PITA and time taker just picking away at it, but if you don't get it all out, the rust will come right back.

Dan don't use that!! It will shrink and crack very bad, I know because I used it on my 72 and now I have to redo it!! Also to clean the old out use a 4" grinder with a wire wheel.

Here's a couple of sites to check into re: the 3M product. Not sure which other sealers there are but it's what I found.

Use a bristle brush on a die grinder to clean out most of the old sealer. A couple 3" round ones should get 99% of it out. I recommend using the plastic bristle ones, much better than wire and they don't fly apart as easily

Then use a cutoff wheel to clean the really tight spots that you weren't able to get with the brush. I have an arbor for my die grinder that I use 3" discs on, just used one that had worn down to maybe 1.5"

Thank you B and B - I will take your advice and use the expensive stuff. I just want to do it once, and for the price, even though it's expensive, in the long run, it'll be worth it.

yeah dan dont take the cheap route on this one especially if you are gonna paint the truck.
8307 3M is what i would use, also SEM has a good product but i dont know the number off hand like i do the 3M but when i get to work monday i can find out.
