Hood sits too high at the rear?
I know this is a common problem on these trucks, but with new hood hinges it should suck right down into where it's supposed to be I would think. I have the hinge mounted as low as adjustably possible, but it's still up 1/4 of an inch. Is there any way around this aside from slotting the hinge holes further (which I'm willing to do)? It's on the drivers side. The passenger side is good. The truck is a 72. Thanks!

Re: Hood sits too high at the rear?
I just saw the same thing on a friends pickup. Hood up high in the back. I noticed that the springs were a smaller spring than mine. He found a set that was like mine, (the correct ones) and that solved the problem. He even had to adjust the bracket back up about midway. Hope it works for you. Dennis..

Re: Hood sits too high at the rear?
to adjust the hood to it's lowest point ,at the rear bolt the hinge goes all the way down , at the front bolt the hinge goes all the way up

Re: Hood sits too high at the rear?
I have seen this problem on a few of these trucks and so far everyone i have messed with had new cowl weatherstripping......the new stuff from LMC isnt made like the original so it doesnt roll back when u close the hood. So if u have new weatherstrip trim about 1/4 inch off of it.....worked for me

Re: Hood sits too high at the rear?
One adjustment that seems to work most of the time.
1.Open hood 2.loosen hood bolts 3.lift front of hood(put some pressure on it) 4.continue to hold pressure.tighten hood bolts. 5.Carefully close hood to make sure it doesn't rub or hit anywhere. Not a sure fire fix but it does work quite often. Also some of the aftermarket hinges cause this. They tend to be "JUNK" and will not last.I know some board vendors will only sell the GM replacements.

Here's the procedure posted by Huck: To get the back down with existing hinges---open hood----loosen the three bolts that attach hinge to fender (both sides). Now push the hood up till the hinges stop moving, ---now push it open a bit more to preload the hinges. Tighten hinges. (two people make it a lot easier--hehehe) now carefully lower the hood--this may take a few adjustments to get it to sit just right (height wise). You may need to adjust the hood front to rear to allow for proper clearance with the cowl. LockDoc

Re: Hood sits too high at the rear?
CG, I just typed "adjust hood" into the "Search This forum" box then ticked the "Show Posts" and it was about a half page down….

Re: Hood sits too high at the rear?
My original hinges and springs were shot so I purchase an aftermarket set. Same problem, the hood sat up high in the back. When I sat the new hinges next to the old, I noticed the new ones were not closing completely. They were binding on a piece of the hinge. Had to grind it a bit to get it to close completely.
Worth a look. |

Re: Hood sits too high at the rear?
Thanks guys! These are new ones, and I don't belive they are GM's. I'll check out everything that's been listed.
