Re: window tinting.

yeah, I got mine at advance auto, and it turned out alright, the only problems were my cutting and little nicks in the glass. clean the glass well and use a good razor blade to cut it. make it a little big and trim it down. It would probably be easiest to have the windows out, but I didnt.

This kit is precut for our trucks. Maybe he will sell you only the pieces you need. These are idiot proof!

Re: window tinting.

i never could tint my own windows, always had something go wrong, but those kits are idiot prrof, well almost,i tried one and ended up having someone else do it.i thought it would have been easier to do with the windos out and laying flat, but the guy said that if you do that all the dust just sits on there,so i ecomend doing them in the truck

Re: window tinting.

They run around $15-$25, and is really easy to install. Just have a squirt bottle of soap water on hand, and make sure to keep everything wet until you find your final placement, and then squeege away!

Re: window tinting.

it seems like it would be worth it to get the precut ones, the worst part is cutting it out, still not too bad, and if its only $23, that is about how much it costs to buy the tint for all the windows from the parts store.

Re: window tinting.

I had my windows tinted while they were out of the truck. If I had to do it again I would tint them with the windows already installed because I scratched my new tint in a few places when I was reinstalling the side windows. Back glass was easy but the sides took me a long time to re-install with many cuss words!

Re: window tinting.

If you go to Home Depot, they sell window tint there.

But seriously? Last truck I had professionally tinted with a lifetime warranty on tint and workmanship was $60. Why spend $30 on tint, and then buy the other supplies (squeegee, razors, etc.) only to have a DIY-home job, when you could pay $50-60 to get your truck tinted by a pro and have a killer job? $20-30 difference isn't a lot of change, I could save that up by bringing my lunch to work 4 days in a row.

I guess after working at a stereo and tint shop when I was younger, I saw one too many "home DIY jobs" gone bad. It's hell to cut tint out once it's stuck to your window, it's messy, it's nasty, and we would charge people more to remove the tint than to lay it on.

I'm all about doing things yourself to save money. However, after being in the business and seeing what the typical home job comes out like, this is NOT one of the places I would skimp.
