Is this the right bracket?

I can't get anymore adjustment out of the alt bracket, and I can't use a smaller belt due to the valve covers. Is the adjust arm in the right position?

Re: Is this the right bracket?

Isn't there another bracket that looks just like that only it's a bit higher up to the arc and longer over the alternator? Other than that, it looks right to me (but, who am I...)

Re: Is this the right bracket?

I had that problem with my old engine. On the new one I moved the alternator to the othe head.

Re: Is this the right bracket?

Moving to the other head is not an option. I know that the alt was original on the right side. All the pulleys align up perfect. I'm wondering if I don't have the adjustment arm in the right place on the head or is that the wrong arm I have?

Re: Is this the right bracket?

I ran into the same problem on mine when I went to aftermarket valve covers. I think the aftermarket ones are a little wider and taller than the stockers. I got the next shorter belt and had to loosen the alternator mounts so I could tip it in to get the belt started and then tightened the wee out of the belt to get the alternator to just clear the valve covers. The belt eventually stretched a bit and it was ok. It is not real good on the bearings in the alternator though.

Re: Is this the right bracket?

those 2 pics do look like the sweep is longer. The valve covers I have are not that tall. I bought this arm at GM last year. I found this on Ebay, and it looks like the adjustment slot is longer. It's supposed to be for a late 60's Corvette. Could one of you guys measure the slot opening length on the arm? I want to see for sure if mine is shorter before getting another one. Thanks.

The distance between the mounting bolt the the end of the slot is around 12 inches, which may only be about 1/2" longer, which would make a difference. My Alt. is pretty close to the valve cover

Re: Is this the right bracket?

I had the same issue and moved the end of the bracket to the threaded hole in the intake manifold and not the head. This required a small spacer for correct belt alignment. Worked great and allow lots of adjustment.

My experience exactly, I bought the next two shorter belts, figured out the one that worked and took the other back.
